About the role

n

The Structural Steel Detailer transforms architectural and engineering plans into precise 3D models and 2D shop drawings. This role ensures all steelwork is detailed accurately for fabrication and erection.

The position requires strict adherence to Australian Standards and project specifications. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between structural design and practical fabrication.

Duties and Responsibilities

n
- Generate detailed fabrication drawings, erection plans, and assembly drawings.
n
- Produce accurate Bill of Materials (BOM), cutting lists, and bolt lists for procurement.
n
- Identify and resolve design clashes before fabrication commences.
n
- Draft and submit Requests for Information (RFIs)



to engineers or architects to resolve design discrepancies.
n
- Liaise with the workshop to resolve fabrication queries and optimize detailing for manufacturing efficiency.
n
- Work with site supervisors to ensure erection plans are clear and practical.
n
- Ensure all detailing complies with the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards.
n
- Update models and drawings promptly to reflect design changes and site variations.
n
- Maintain accurate records of drawing issues, revisions, and transmittals.
n
- Self-check all drawings for dimensional accuracy and completeness prior to formal review.

Essential Skills

n
- Comprehensive knowledge of AS 4100 (Steel structures), AS/NZS 1554 (Structural steel welding), and AS 5131 (Structural steelwork fabrication and erection).
n
- High level of accuracy in drafting and mathematical calculations.
n
- Ability to visualize complex 3D structures from 2D architectural and engineering plans.
n
- Proven ability to manage multiple project deadlines simultaneously.
n
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical coordination.
n
- Proactive approach to identifying design flaws and proposing practical solutions.
n

Qualifications needed:

- Minimum Trade qualification or equivalent relevant work experience

- Minimum one year of work experience on relevant position
