Job Description

Open Position
n
Climbing Gym Manager
n
564 Tathra Road, Kalaru NSW 2550 Full Time
n
The Climbing Hub
n
Gravity House is Bega Valley's first indoor climbing gym. We're opening in November 2026. We've been building this with the valley for over a year, with 650+ people following along.
n
The Location
n
Kalaru in Bega Valley, NSW. 5 minutes from Tathra beach. Valuable surf. Some of the best MTB trails in the state on your doorstep.
n
The kind of place people choose to live on purpose.
n
The Role
n
You'll be the face of the gym. Reporting directly to the founders, you'll own the daily operation and set the tone for everything that happens inside.
n
You'll manage operations, culture, safety, and quality. All at once.
n
This is a hands-on leadership role in a new business where you will need to be highly organised, self-driven, and constantly looking for ways to improve services, processes, and the overall customer experience.
n
We are also building a team around this role over time. This will likely include roles such as community manager, ground staff, and other support crew as the gym grows. As such, we're looking for a Gym Manager who can help shape and scale the team from the ground up.
n
What You'll Own
n
n
- Daily operations: opening, closing, safety checks, cleaning schedules, equipment
n
- Customer experience: from a first-time visitor's visit to long-term member relationships
n
- Team: rostering, training, and building a culture people want to be part of
n
- Safety and compliance:
bouldering protocols, incident response, first aid
n
- Quality: the walls, the space, the atmosphere
n
n
You will be properly onboarded and supported by the founders. While this is a high-ownership role, you will not be on your own. There will always be guidance available when needed, especially in the early stages as we build the systems and rhythm together.
n
Who We Are Looking For
n
You're a people person. You remember names. You notice who is new and make them feel welcome. You check in on the quiet climber who came alone last week. You guide first-timers through their first climbs, encourage nervous beginners, and help experienced climbers feel at home. You create an environment where people feel safe, seen, and supported.
n
A hospitality background is a real plus. You know what good service actually looks like, and you care about it.
n
You're passionate about community and health. Climbing experience is a bonus. You need to believe in what we're building: a space where the valley comes to move and belong.
n
You're comfortable with a small team and a new business. You'd rather build the culture than inherit one.
n
You're Probably Right For This If
n
n
- People genuinely come first for you
n
- You've managed a team before, even a small one
n
- You've worked in hospitality, fitness, leisure, or customer-facing retail
n
- You think about culture deliberately, not as an afterthought
n
- The phrase "opening day" gives you energy
