What you'll be doing

n

As our Senior Engineer, Integration, you'll design and build the integration services that connect critical platforms across Virgin Australia and Velocity Frequent Flyer.

n

This is a hands‐on senior engineering role where you'll be involved in API design, development and technical discovery. You'll work as part of a cross‐functional delivery team, contributing to stand‐ups, planning sessions and other agile ceremonies while helping shape secure, scalable and reliable integration solutions.

You'll:

n

n
- Design and develop APIs, microservices and event‐driven integration solutions.
n
- Write testable, scalable and efficient code and leading code reviews
n
- Use approved AI‐assisted engineering tools to support technical discovery, API design, & implementation.
n
- Use AI‐assisted code review to identify potential defects, security risks, performance issues and non‐compliance with engineering standards.
n
- Share effective AI engineering practices and mentor engineers in the safe and responsible use of AI tools.
n
- Work across both synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns.
n
- Build cloud‐based microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
n
- Experience designing and implementing integrations on microservices based architecture
n
- Develop solutions that run at scale across AWS and Kubernetes environments.
n
- Work with systems integration, Springboot, APIs (SOAP, REST), API Management platform (Apigee), events streaming (Kafka)



and containerisation (Kubernetes / Docker)
n
- Contribute to layered microservice architectures, including Experience, Business, Domain and Adapter API layers.
n
- Take part in technical discovery, solution design and estimation when required.
n
- Apply strong engineering practices across code quality, testing, automation, CI/CD and documentation.
n
- Support production readiness, observability, resilience and ongoing service improvement.
n
- Work closely with engineering leads, peers, testing teams, delivery teams and offshore team.
n
- Communicate technical decisions, risks and dependencies clearly across teams.
n
- Mentor other engineers and contribute to stronger engineering standards and reusable integration patterns.

You'll be great in this role if you have...

n

n
- Extensive experience in software engineering, with strong experience in the integration space.
n
- Practical experience using AI coding assistants across software design, development, testing, code review and documentation.
n
- The ability to write clear technical context and instructions that produce useful, repeatable AI‐assisted outcomes.
n
- Experience creating reusable AI‐assisted development workflows, prompts or team guidance will be highly regarded.
n
- Deep hands‐on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
n
- Strong experience designing and developing APIs and microservices.
n
- Experience with event‐driven integration and Kafka.
n
- Experience working with Kubernetes and cloud‐based microservice environments.
n
- A solid understanding of layered API and microservice architecture.
n
- Experience with OpenAPI and API‐first design practices.




n
- Strong knowledge of software engineering practices, testing, CI/CD, observability and production support.
n
- The ability to work collaboratively across onshore and offshore teams.
n
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to engage with leads, peers, testers and delivery stakeholders.
n
- A team‐first mindset, solid technical judgement and a practical approach to problem‐solving
n

Experience working in a high‐volume, customer‐facing or regulated environment will be highly regarded.
