Engineering Technologist - Altona Kogan People Solutions, recruiters, are assisting a long-established, leading independent steel distributor and processing specialist to recruit their next Engineering Technologist. Our client specialises in high-quality steel distribution, steel plate processing, and custom engineering solutions for manufacturing, fabrication, construction, and industrial applications. They are committed to delivering innovative products, precision processing, and outstanding customer service.

About the role: The Engineering Technologist will play a key role in supporting the design, development, production, and continuous improvement of steel processing systems and manufacturing workflows. This role is ideal for a technically minded professional who enjoys problem-solving, process optimisation, and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

- Salary: Offered in the range of $80k to $90k plus superannuation per annum.
n
- Location: Based in Altona, VIC.
n
- Tenure: Full-time and ongoing.
n
The responsibilities of the position will include:
n
- Assist in the design, development, and continuous improvement of steel processing systems and manufacturing processes.
n
- Prepare and maintain technical drawings, specifications, engineering reports, and production documentation.
n
- Monitor production performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and support workflow optimisation to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
n
- Collaborate with production teams, suppliers, clients,
and contractors to ensure technical requirements and project timelines are met.
n
- Support procurement, material selection, cost estimation, and production planning activities.
n
- Conduct product testing, inspections, and quality assurance to ensure compliance with Australian standards and company procedures.
n
- Assist with research and development initiatives, including new product development and system enhancements.
n
- Provide technical support during manufacturing, processing, and commissioning processes.
n
- Support the implementation of new technologies, equipment, and manufacturing methods, including training staff on updated systems and procedures.
n
You should be able to demonstrate the following attributes and strengths to be considered:
n
- Highly relevant bachelor's degree or higher in a related Engineering field.
n
- At least 3, or more, years of verifiable relevant skilled engineering experience, preferably in manufacturing, steel products, fabrication, or construction-related industries.
n
- Experience with CAD software and technical documentation.
n
- Strong communication skills to ensure professional and effective client interactions.
n
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control systems.
n
- Excellent time management skills.
n
- Well-developed, verifiable people management capabilities.
n
- The ability to work effectively under pressure.
n
- High-level technical skills relevant to the role, including well-developed systems skills.
n
You must have unrestricted full time Australian working rights to be considered.
