Graduate Engineer - Sustainability & Engineering (Feb 2027 Program)

The Role
n
As a Graduate at SMEC, you'll be part of a high-impact talent group, contributing to the delivery of major infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists.
n
Our two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) is designed to accelerate your growth — combining hands‐on project experience with structured learning, mentoring, and exposure across teams and disciplines.
n
Once completed, successful Graduates move along our Career Pathways, transitioning to their Professional title (either 'Graduate' or 'Scientist' depending on the technical discipline) and then onwards. Growth is a balanced blend of experience, tenure, development, goals and desired trajectory.

Key responsibilities:
n
You'll support the delivery of real infrastructure projects from day one — contributing to sustainability analysis, reporting and integration across transport,
energy and built environment projects while learning from experienced consultants and gaining exposure to project and client delivery.
n
- Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting sustainability assessments, reporting and technical documentation across infrastructure and development projects
n
- Assist with analysis of environmental, social and sustainability outcomes, including carbon, energy and resource efficiency under guidance from senior team members
n
- Participate in project activities and site visits to develop an understanding of how sustainability outcomes are implemented on live projects
n
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate sustainability outcomes into transport, energy and urban development projects
n
- Learn and apply industry standards, digital tools and best practice through structured development and on-the-job experience
n
About You
n
You're a motivated graduate who is passionate about sustainability, enjoys problem-solving, and is keen to contribute to real-world infrastructure and environmental outcomes.
n
You will bring:
n
- A degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related discipline
n
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
n
- A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a willingness to learn and take initiative
n
- Exposure to sustainability frameworks, data analysis or digital tools (advantageous)
n
