The Role
n
This is a hands-on infrastructure engineering opportunity within a large-scale research computing program, responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting the core platforms that underpin high-performance computing (HPC) services. Working alongside architects, platform engineers, researchers, and infrastructure specialists, you'll deliver resilient, scalable, and secure infrastructure across Kubernetes, storage, virtualisation, networking, and data centre environments.

This role is ideal for an experienced Platform or Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and applying modern DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code practices within an enterprise setting.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Design, deploy and maintain production-grade on-premises Kubernetes platforms supporting high-performance computing workloads, including complex and stateful applications.
n
- Build and support enterprise infrastructure across virtualisation, high-performance storage, Linux, networking, and data centre environments to ensure high availability, scalability, and operational resilience.
n
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automation practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible and Git to deliver repeatable, reliable infrastructure deployments.
n
- Implement monitoring, observability, security, and operational standards across infrastructure platforms, proactively identifying performance issues and ensuring compliance with security and governance requirements.

- Collaborate closely with infrastructure architects, engineering teams, researchers, and vendors to deliver technical solutions, support project delivery, maintain technical documentation, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills & Experience Required
n
n
- Demonstrated experience designing, deploying and supporting production Kubernetes environments, ideally within on-premises enterprise infrastructure.
n
- Strong infrastructure engineering background across Linux, virtualisation, storage, networking, container technologies (Docker, CRI-O), and data centre infrastructure.
n
- Experience implementing DevOps practices including Git, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and/or Ansible, and infrastructure automation.
n
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or equivalent, with a focus on operational excellence and proactive platform management.
n
- Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working collaboratively across technical teams. Exposure to High Performance Computing (HPC), research environments, or higher education will be highly regarded.
