About the Opportunity

n

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer – Database (Cloud & Hybrid) to design, implement, and support scalable, resilient database solutions that bridge traditional on-premises infrastructure with modern cloud platforms.

n

This is a hands-on, technically demanding role ideal for seasoned professionals with deep expertise in database administration within complex, mission critical enterprise environments. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in driving the modernisation & optimisation of NSW Health's database infrastructure, enabling secure, high-performing and cost-effective technical solutions that support evolving business needs.

In this role, you will:

n

n
- Design, implement, and support hybrid database solutions using Microsoft SQL Server across on-premise and cloud (Azure/AWS) environments.
n
- Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to deliver scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
n
- Lead the modernisation of legacy systems and migration to cloud or hybrid architectures
n
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps to enable efficient database deployment and updates.
n
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise database performance, availability, and capacity.
n
- Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and enterprise standards while providing technical leadership and support.
n

This role is internally referred to as Senior Engineer - Database.

n

About You

n

We are looking for someone with:

n

n
- Extensive demonstrated experience in database engineering, including hybrid/cloud environments (Azure and AWS) and Microsoft SQL Server.
n
- Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (especially Terraform), scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Bash), and DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
n
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking, identity & access management, and security best practices in hybrid IT settings
n
- Strong problem-solving abilities and experience operating in complex,



large-scale environments using Agile and ITSM frameworks (e.g. ServiceNow)
n
- Confident communication and documentation skills, able to act as a trusted advisor across diverse business units.
n
- Proven ability to lead and mentor, while balancing strategic thinking with hands-on support for both projects and BAU operations.
