Our client is a large values-focused Federal Government Agency seeking 2 x Lead Data Engineers (EL1 level) to provide technical leadership across enterprise data initiatives and deliver scalable, maintainable data solutions.

This role will suit senior data engineers with strong enterprise data warehouse experience, advanced SQL capability, and experience working across technical design, data modelling, code review and implementation.

Location: Melbourne or Geelong VIC
Contract: 12 months + 12-month extension option
Working arrangement: (Hybrid, 2/3 split)
Security: AGSVA Baseline Clearance – Must be able to obtain NV1

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will provide technical leadership across data delivery teams, supporting the design, development and implementation of enterprise data integration solutions, ETL processes, analytical datasets and data assets. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, architects, analysts, developers, testers and support teams to deliver high-quality data solutions and uplift engineering practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide technical leadership and guidance through design reviews, technical advice and implementation best practice.
- Design, develop and maintain enterprise data integration solutions, ETL processes and analytical datasets.
- Lead technical implementation of new data assets from analysis/design through to deployment and operational support.




- Review and improve data delivery frameworks, development standards and engineering practices.
- Develop and maintain SQL analytical code, ETL processes and technical documentation.
- Conduct peer reviews of code, data models and technical designs.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and data assets.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, data consumers, developers, testers and support teams.
- Support knowledge transfer, capability uplift, backlog prioritisation and continuous improvement.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

- Experience developing, auditing, reviewing and supporting solutions within enterprise data warehouse platforms such as MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks or similar.
- Advanced programming capability, including solid SQL and experience with Python, SAS, R or Java.
- Strong SQL development, optimisation, troubleshooting and reverse engineering experience.
- Ability to interpret data models, technical specifications and solution designs.
- Experience working in DevOps environments using contemporary software delivery practices.
- Version control experience and understanding of structured release management.

Desirable: 4+ years in data engineering / data development / enterprise data warehouse roles, cloud experience such as AWS/S3/Glue, relevant tertiary qualifications, data modelling methodologies and metadata-driven development frameworks.
