Who we are looking for
n
The Senior Counsellor will provide trauma informed counselling, support and referral for people who are victims of crime, to assist with well-being and resilience, reduce the likelihood of re-traumatisation, and encourage sustained post-traumatic growth and recovery.
n
The Senior Counsellor will also provide operational supervision, intake, triage and assessment coordination, case advice and support to a group of Counsellors who directly report to them and work closely with the Team Leader regarding client allocation and operational management of the team.
n
To be successful in this role you will have:
n
n
- Tertiary qualification (AQF level 7) in social work, psychology, counselling or related discipline or a diploma (AQF level 5) in counselling.
n
- Demonstrated experience in providing counselling to those affected by violence, abuse, child sexual abuse, and trauma, using evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
n
- Experience in working holistically with children and young people and families who have experienced trauma and family centred work.
n
n
It would be a bonus if you have:
n
n
- Postgraduate (AQF level 9) qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, or related discipline.
n
- Experience in leadership and line management of staff or volunteers.
n
- Experience in working with Aboriginal communities, families, and services.
n
- Experience working with the criminal justice system.
n
n
What you will be doing
n
n
- Provide high quality short to medium-term trauma responsive counselling, comprehensive support and referrals that respond to the specific needs of victims of crime.
n
- Collaborate with the Team Leader to support program staff achieve targets as per funding agreements.
n
- Collaborate with the Team Leader to implement client allocation and caseload management.
n
- Provide operational supervision, client case support and leadership to the assigned rebuild Counsellors.
n
- Collaborate with appropriate social and practical support services, such as SAPOL, VOCSA, DPP, housing, health, mental health, financial and aged care to meet the critical needs of individuals.
n
