Western Hospital is seeking an experienced and highly motivated nursing leader to join our executive team as Director of Nursing.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior healthcare professional to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across the organisation. As a member of the executive team, the Director of Nursing will work closely with executive colleagues, clinical leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to provide visible and values-based leadership across our nursing, perioperative, and clinical services, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

About The Role
n
The Director of Nursing will provide executive oversight and leadership across clinical services, ensuring strong clinical governance, effective workforce management, and operational excellence.
n
Key responsibilities include:
n
Providing executive leadership and strategic direction across nursing, clinical services, and operational areas.
n
Leading and supporting nursing, perioperative, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and patient-focused care.
n
Overseeing theatre operations, workforce planning, and service delivery to optimise clinical performance and patient outcomes.
n
Driving improvements in operational efficiency and supporting effective management of financial and human resources.
n
Building workforce capability through staff engagement, performance development,
and professional growth initiatives.
n
Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, risk management, and accreditation standards.
n
Contributing to organisational strategy, executive decision-making, and performance reporting.
n
Participating in the executive on-call roster and providing leadership during operational and clinical challenges.

About You
n
You are an accomplished nursing leader with demonstrated experience in senior healthcare management roles. You will bring a strong understanding of clinical governance, healthcare operations, and contemporary nursing leadership practices.
n
To be successful in this role, you will have:
n
Demonstrated experience in senior nursing leadership or healthcare management positions.
n
Strong knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement, risk management, and accreditation frameworks.
n
Experience managing clinical operations, workforce performance, and resource allocation.
n
Understanding of perioperative services, theatre operations, and broader hospital environments.
n
A proven ability to lead high-performing teams, influence stakeholders, and achieve organisational outcomes.
n
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
n
The ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on operational leadership in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Current AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse
n
Post Graduate qualifications in Nursing, Leadership and/or Health Management.
n
Minimum of ten years post registration including at least 5 years in a senior management role in a hospital.
n
Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with Executive teams, Boards and governing bodies.
n
Ability to build team-oriented relationships across executive, clinical and community stakeholders.
