Matrix Education is hiring a Financial Controller to join the us at our Sydney CBD head office.

n

As the Financial Controller, you will lead the financial management and strategic financial operations of the organisation.

n

Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Controller will oversee the finance function and lead the implementation of finance-related systems, ensure effective cash flow forecasting and management, support mergers and acquisitions, and provide strategic financial insight to support business growth and risk management.

n

This is a key leadership role requiring a mix of financial rigor, systems implementation expertise, and strategic foresight.

What you'll do:

n

n
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
n
- Provide timely financial insights to the CFO and executive team to inform decision-making.
n
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
n
- Supervise the preparation and delivery of monthly board reports.
n
- Lead the implementation and optimisation of finance-related systems, including ERP upgrades, reporting tools, and automation solutions.
n
- Standardise financial reporting processes and ensure data accuracy across the business.
n
- Strengthen internal controls, compliance, and operational workflows.
n
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and working capital optimisation.
n
- Monitor financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
n
- Ensure compliance with financial, regulatory, and tax obligations.
n
- Manage and monitor financial covenants related to banking and funding agreements.
n
- Prepare and present compliance documentation to relevant stakeholders.
n
- Support the CFO in evaluating M&A; opportunities and strategic partnerships.

- Conduct financial due diligence, valuation modelling, and scenario analysis.
n
- Lead post-acquisition integration from a financial operations perspective.
n
- Coordinate with legal, tax, and operational stakeholders to ensure transaction readiness and compliance.
n
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering professional growth and high performance.
n
- Collaborate across departments to support strategic initiatives and business transformation.
n
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
n

What you'll need:

n

n
- 10+ years of combined accounting and finance experience.
n
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
n
- Strong leadership and financial management capability.
n
- Expertise in financial systems, process improvement, and ERP implementation.
n
- Advanced financial modelling and analytical skills.
n
- High attention to detail and stakeholder management.
n
- Proactive and adaptable, able to work well under pressure.
n
