Assistant Engineering and Maintenance Manager - Full -time role

Lanson Place Parliament Gardens features 137 rooms including hotel rooms, studios, and 1- and 2-bedroom apartments, along with two penthouses providing panoramic views of the city. Guest facilities include a 20-metre indoor heated swimming pool, spa, and a 24-hour fitness centre, while an exciting culinary journey awaits at Chronicle 502 Bar & Dining, our signature restaurant.

About the role
Reporting to the Rooms Division Manager, you will work alongside two Handymen to look after the day‑to‑day maintenance of our boutique hotel of 137 rooms.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee the general maintenance of the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, equipment and building systems.
- Plan and organise regular,
preventative and scheduled maintenance across the property.
- Carry out and coordinate routine checks to make sure equipment and facilities are safe and working properly.
- Keep accurate records of hotel equipment, including electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.
- Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office and other departments to resolve maintenance issues quickly, particularly when they affect guests.
- Coordinate external contractors and suppliers for repairs, servicing and equipment installation.
- Help manage maintenance costs, review supplier quotes and look for practical ways to reduce expenses.
- Support, guide and supervise the maintenance team and organise work schedules.
- Make sure there is appropriate support available for urgent maintenance issues and emergencies.
- Work with the Rooms Division Manager to maintain clear procedures for emergencies such as power outages, plumbing problems or equipment failures.
- Respond quickly to urgent maintenance issues and minimise disruption to guests and hotel operations.
- Ensure maintenance activities meet relevant safety requirements, building standards and regulations.
- Look for ways to improve energy efficiency, sustainability and operating costs.
- Keep maintenance records up to date, including repairs,
servicing and equipment checks.
- Provide regular updates to management on maintenance priorities, ongoing works and any areas of concern.
- Attend relevant hotel meetings and training as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve the way the maintenance department operates, including better processes, systems and equipment.
Key Skills & Experience
- On site hotel experience as an engineer wanting to step up
- A solid background in hotel maintenance, facilities, engineering or building operations, ideally with previous responsibility for overseeing the function
- A relevant trade or technical background would be an advantage
- Proven ability to guide, coordinate and develop a small team
- Good working knowledge of building systems, plant, equipment and day‑to‑day property upkeep
- Confidence in coordinating external trades and service providers, scheduling routine maintenance and keeping compliance requirements on track
- Ability to prioritise competing demands and manage maintenance activities efficiently
- Robust interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across the hotel
- Someone who is comfortable being hands‑on, identifying issues and finding practical solutions
- A sound understanding of workplace safety obligations and applicable Australian standards
- A proactive approach to ensuring the property is safe, functional and presented to a high standard
- Availability to support the operation outside standard weekday hours when needed, including weekends and public holidays
