Full-time, fixed-term position until 12 March 2027 Based at Western's Campbelltown campus, with flexible working arrangements Salary: HEW Level 6 $97,693 - $104,713 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading NSW Employee Working with Children Clearance Required

Deliver high-quality welfare services supporting student wellbeing, access and success across the University.

The Opportunity

The Student Welfare Officer will deliver responsive and high-quality student welfare services that enhance student wellbeing, success and engagement across the University. The role provides professional assessment, advice, advocacy and referral support to students experiencing a range of welfare-related challenges, including financial hardship, accommodation concerns and academic matters.

The Student Welfare Officer will manage complex casework, applying professional judgement to assess student circumstances and determine appropriate interventions, including eligibility for financial assistance. The role also supports priority cohorts requiring specialised assistance, including asylum seekers and under 18 international students.

Working collaboratively, the Student Welfare Officer will contribute to program development and delivery of educational initiatives designed to improve student wellbeing and outcomes. The Student Welfare Officer will build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, while ensuring accurate and confidential case records in line with legislative and policy requirements. The position also contributes to service improvement initiatives, resource development and broader strategic objectives.

What Success Looks Like:





- Deliver high-quality assessment, advice and case management for student welfare matters.
- Coordinate effective support services for diverse student cohorts and complex needs.
- Contribute to programs and initiatives that improve student wellbeing outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, compliant and confidential student records and case documentation.
- Build collaborative partnerships to strengthen integrated student support services.

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate the capability to deliver qualified, student-centred welfare services within a complex environment.

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences, Social Work or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of welfare issues affecting diverse cohorts, with the ability to respond appropriately and sensitively.
- Proven experience in case management, advocacy and delivery of student or community-based support services.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to manage sensitive and complex situations.
- Experience contributing to service improvement initiatives that enhance wellbeing outcomes.




- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and maintain a high standard of service delivery.
- A current NSW Working with Children Check Clearance, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
