APS6 Finance Officer - Veterans & Wellbeing

Location: Canberra, ACT or Brisbane, QLD
Contract: 12 months to 30 September 2027, with possible extension
Pay: $78.40-$89.60 p/h including super (negotiable)
Work type: Full-time
Work arrangement: Hybrid, with specific arrangements agreed with your supervisor on a case-by-case basis
Clearance: Must hold a current Baseline clearance or above
Proposed start: 1 October 2026, subject to candidate availability and onboarding

About the Role
This APS6 Finance Officer role supports our Federal Government client in the veterans and wellbeing space. You will work as a Finance Business Partner between business areas and the CFO function, with a strong focus on budget management. You will provide financial reporting, analysis and advice to senior leaders. The work covers forecasting, management reporting, project accounting, month end and longer-term financial planning.

What You'll Be Doing

- Act as a key finance conduit between business areas and the CFO function
- Provide financial advice and analysis to support business decisions
- Prepare monthly management reports, variance analysis and forecast commentary
- Monitor forecasts and advise on emerging financial impacts
- Support month-end and EOFY processes, including accruals and prepayments




- Coordinate budget development, expenditure forecasting and long-term planning
- Provide project accounting and analysis for projects and investment decisions
- Identify financial risks and issues and support sound finance processes
- Help improve financial literacy and capability across the organisation

What You Bring (Essential Criteria)

- You've worked as a Finance Business Partner or in financial and management reporting
- You've prepared budgets, forecasts and financial analysis in a public sector setting
- You understand accounting theory and management accounting
- You have strong project accounting experience
- You can provide credible financial advice to senior stakeholders
- You can manage month-end activities including accruals and prepayments
- You communicate clearly in financial reports and advice
- You're an Australian citizen
- You must hold a current Baseline clearance or above

Nice to Have (Desirable Criteria)

- CA or CPA qualified, or currently studying towards the qualification
- Public sector finance business partnering experience
- IT project accounting or financial project management experience in the public sector
