Your next career opportunity

The School of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking to expand its expertise in mathematics and/or statistics education, with an appointment at Level B or C depending on your experience.

You will contribute to and lead an innovative academic program of teaching, along with research in mathematics education.

You also will contribute to the national and international community through the conduct of research in mathematics education, or scholarship of learning and teaching in mathematics. There may also be opportunities for the candidate to conduct other discipline-related research.

What you will deliver

- Design and deliver engaging first- and second-year undergraduate subjects, including lectures, tutorials and computer laboratory classes.
- Coordinate large undergraduate subjects, ensuring high-quality curricula, assessments,



student support and effective use of digital platforms.
- Lead school-level innovation in mathematics and statistics education, contributing to curriculum development and improved teaching practices.
- Provide academic leadership within the MSLC, overseeing tutor recruitment, training, workload allocation and assessment administration.
- Develop a coherent research or scholarship programme in mathematics education, sharing outcomes through publications, presentations and practice.

You may be a great fit if you

- Hold a PhD in mathematics, statistics, or another closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate excellence in undergraduate mathematics or statistics teaching and curriculum development across wide-ranging class sizes.
- Bring evidence of growing national or international recognition in mathematics education or scholarship of learning and teaching.
- Lead or coordinate large undergraduate subjects and drive educational innovation in mathematics or statistics.
- Apply strong organisational and digital literacy skills to manage deadlines, systems, and educational technologies effectively.
- Understand the transition challenges faced by first-year students and evolving post-pandemic mathematics education landscapes.

It has achieved this status through the high quality of its research and teaching programs. The School offers a wide range of subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students and is involved in aspects of community life that impact on the interests of the School and the discipline.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics has a total of 90 continuing teaching and/or research staff; 37 research only staff and consultants; 19 academic specialists and 16 support staff. In 2023, 143 Research Higher Degree and 189 Coursework Master of Science students.

The School has had 10 staff members inducted as Fellows of the Academy of Science.
