Brisbane | Construction & Trades | Excellent Career Development Opportunity
Are you early in your HR career and looking for an opportunity where you can gain genuine exposure across the entire employee lifecycle instead of being limited to administration?
We are partnering with an established and growing Brisbane construction and trade services group looking to appoint an enthusiastic HR & WHS Coordinator to support its expanding workforce.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this is an excellent chance for a junior HR professional looking to accelerate their development. You'll work closely with senior management, project teams, site supervisors and an experienced WHS Advisor while gradually taking ownership of the day-to-day people function across the group.
Importantly, you don't need to know everything from day one. We're looking for someone with the right foundations, attitude and willingness to learn.
HR & WHS Coordinator
This is a genuinely broad HR position that will give you exposure to:
- Recruitment, interviewing and onboarding
- Employment contracts and position descriptions
- Employee relations and performance management
- HR policies, compliance and employee records
- Award and EBA interpretation
- Payroll support and employee changes
- Training and professional development
- Apprentice programs and coordination with RTOs
- WHS systems, inductions and compliance registers
- Incident and near-miss administration
- Licence, ticket and certification management
- HR and WHS reporting to senior management
You'll also work alongside an experienced WHS Advisor, allowing you to build valuable safety knowledge without being responsible for technical site-safety decisions.
About You
We're particularly interested in someone looking to build a long-term career in HR within the construction industry.
You may currently be an HR Administrator,
HR Assistant, People & Culture Coordinator, Recruitment Coordinator or junior HR Advisor ready for more responsibility.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Some practical experience within HR, recruitment or people administration
- A Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline - advantageous but not essential
- Exposure to construction, trades, engineering or another project-based environment would be highly regarded
- An interest in developing your knowledge of Awards, EBAs and employee relations
- Strong administration and organisational skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with both office and site-based employees
- A professional approach when dealing with confidential information
- Plenty of initiative and a willingness to learn
Previous WHS experience is not essential. You'll be supported by the group's WHS Advisor while developing your understanding of safety systems and compliance.
Why This Role?
For someone at the beginning of their HR career, the biggest attraction is exposure.
Rather than spending the next few years specialising in one small area, you'll gain hands-on experience across recruitment, employee relations, performance, payroll, training, apprenticeships, compliance and WHS.
You’ll report directly to senior management, have genuine responsibility and be given the opportunity to grow your capability as the business continues to expand.
It’s an excellent stepping stone for someone who ultimately wants to develop into an HR Advisor, HR Manager or broader People & Culture position.
If you’re ambitious, organised, enjoy dealing with people and want to kick-start your HR career within the construction industry, we’d love to hear from you.
All applications will be treated in strict confidence.
