This is a role for an experienced CMT professional who wants more than simply running tests or managing a roster. We're looking for someone who wants to lead a team, remain technically hands‑on, own standards and help build a high‑performing laboratory operation.

This is a hands‑on leadership role with responsibility for the day-to-day performance of our Toowoomba laboratory and technical team.

While leadership, planning and laboratory management are central to the position, you will also undertake hands‑on construction materials testing as part of your role.





We want our Laboratory Manager to remain technically connected to the work — someone who understands what's happening at the bench, can test alongside the team and leads with practical credibility.

You’ll balance this hands‑on involvement with responsibility for people, workflow, quality, clients and priorities.

You’ll be trusted to take ownership of the laboratory function, make decisions and ensure the right things happen without needing to be constantly directed.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading, mentoring and developing Laboratory and Technical Officers
- Undertaking hands‑on laboratory testing as part of the day‑to‑day role
- Planning laboratory workload, scheduling and resources
- Maintaining high standards of testing accuracy and technical compliance
- Overseeing adherence to our NATA Quality Management System
- Championing WHS, quality and compliance requirements
- Reviewing laboratory performance, productivity and workflow
- Managing equipment, calibration and laboratory resources
- Supporting training, competency and signatory development
- Working closely with field teams and operational leadership
- Managing client expectations and technical enquiries
- Assisting with proposals, project planning and commercial decisions
- Supporting annex laboratories and future regional operations

As RSG grows, there will also be opportunities to contribute beyond the laboratory into broader operations, project management, quality and leadership initiatives.

Your Technical Background

You may currently be:

- An experienced Laboratory Manager
- A Laboratory Supervisor ready for greater responsibility
- A Senior CMT Technician ready to take the next step
- An experienced technical skilled with strong laboratory and people leadership capability

Ideally, you’ll have:

- Sound knowledge of AS 1289, AS 1012 and relevant TMR test methods
- Experience working within a NATA‑accredited laboratory
- Strong understanding of laboratory QA and compliance requirements
- Experience supervising, training or mentoring technical staff
- Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or equivalent as a minimum, with Diploma‑level qualifications highly regarded
- Current Queensland Nuclear Density Gauge Licence
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining standards

You must also:

- Hold a current unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence
- Hold a Construction White Card
- Have full Australian working rights
- Be willing to undertake a pre‑employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening
