Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong leadership in supervising a team of 6 Indigenous Rangers (3 Male & 3 Female)
- Establish operational plans, schedule field activities, and mentor a team of 6 Rangers in line with cultural protocols and WHS requirements.
- Coordinate hands-on land and river management, including fire management, weed/pest control, fencing, biodiversity monitoring, and mapping.
- Build strong relationships with Traditional Owners, private landholders, and government agencies to facilitate access and project outcomes.
- Identify training needs and facilitate training opportunities for the team’s qualified skills development.
- Actively support cultural heritage protection and Indigenous Knowledge management.
- Maintain field equipment, vehicles, and accurate GPS/GIS data recording systems.
- Monitor 6-month and annual targets, delivering regular progress updates to the CEO.
Selection Criteria
About you
- Qualifications in Conservation & Ecosystem Management, Cultural Heritage, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience as a Senior/Lead Ranger or supervisor, ideally within a First Nations or cross-cultural environment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience as a Team Leader, preferably in a similar role, with the ability to effectively lead a small team.
- Strong cross-cultural communication skills and experience working on-Country.
- Basic mapping platform/GPS proficiency and solid computer skills (MS Office).
- Valid Class 'C' Driver's License and strong physical fitness for field work.
- Senior First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check.

Through NIAA funding, we are proud to launch the Wirimbirra Indigenous Ranger Program - a 100% First Nations initiative integrating traditional knowledge and Western science to care for land and river Country across Wiradjuri land.
