Mesothelioma and Dust Diseases Australia (MADDA) is seeking qualified Nurses to join our team and coordinate our Specialist Support Services.

This role provides a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of people affected by asbestos-related diseases, especially the terminal cancer mesothelioma, through a patient-focused, specialist support service.

About the Role
n
This role is central to developing and delivering a structured patient journey for those affected by mesothelioma, with the opportunity to shape resources and programs that directly improve the patient experience.
n
Key responsibilities include:
n
n
- Provide direct patient and caregiver support, including counselling, care navigation and advocacy.
n
- Help patients and families come to terms with the diagnosis and guide them on what to expect on the journey ahead.
n
- Work closely with medical professionals (respiratory physicians and oncology nurses) to help ensure consistent patient care and to bridge the gaps between acute and community services.
n
- Signpost patients/caregivers to available community services to help maintain best possible quality of life.
n
- Receive, assess and respond to new patient referrals in a timely manner.
n
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate quarterly peer support groups for patients/caregivers and bereaved families.
n
- Contribute to educational resources to help guide clients through the mesothelioma journey.
n
- Build and maintain relationships with medical specialists, service providers and other stakeholders.
n
- Stay informed of developments in the asbestos-related diseases support sector and maintain connections with relevant affiliates and resource providers as needed.
n

These are hands‐on, patient‐focused roles offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on the quality of life for those with terminal illness. We provide duty of care debriefing service for these roles.
n
The role combines flexibility and variety with work across the MADDA office, from home and through patient home visits.
n
This position is based on one to two days per week, with flexible schedule.
n
The MADDA office is in the Perth CBD.
n
About You
n
n
- Qualified nurse (BNurs) with a minimum of five years' experience.
n
- Compassionate and confident communicator, able to provide empathetic support to patients and caregivers.
n
- Experience planning, coordinating and facilitating meetings or group sessions.
n
- Ability to set and achieve goals, tasks and objectives within timelines.
n
- Strong organisational and time‐management skills.
n
- Patient‐centred approach with high ethical standards.
n
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekday evening support groups.
n
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
n
- Legal entitlement to work in Australia.
n
n
Desirable but not essential
n
n
- Experience facilitating support groups.
n
- Understanding of the unique challenges of asbestos‐related diseases.
n
- Lived experience of mesothelioma.
n
- Experience supporting people with a terminal illness.
n
n
Established in 2015, Mesothelioma and Dust Diseases Australia (MADDA) is a not-for-profit reducing the impact of asbestos and dust diseases on the community through Awareness, Advocacy and Specialist Support.
n
On average, one person dies every 12 hours in Australia from the mesothelioma, and an estimated 4,000 per year from asbestos-related disease.
