The opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to play a key role in enabling the secure, responsible and ethical adoption of AI across the University as demand for new AI initiatives continues to grow.





You’ll assess AI initiatives from early procurement and design through to deployment, operation and review, working across generative AI, vendor solutions and emerging agentic technologies. Your role will be to understand the use case, identify key risks and help teams put the right controls in place.

This is a consultative and enabling role, focused on partnering closely with stakeholders to support innovation while ensuring AI initiatives remain secure, transparent, ethical and aligned with University expectations.

What you'll do

- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of AI governance and assurance frameworks across the University.
- Coordinate responsible AI reviews across new and existing initiatives, assessing risks across procurement, implementation, operation and review.
- Develop risk profiles for AI solutions and recommend proportionate technical, behavioural and governance controls.
- Work directly with project teams and business stakeholders to understand proposed use cases and guide them through the assurance process.
- Maintain assurance records, risk registers, review documentation and actions across the lifecycle of AI initiatives.
- Partner with Cyber Security, Data Governance, Risk, Legal, Architecture and technical teams to address privacy, security, ethical and operational risks.
- Support reporting, governance forums,



process improvement and the ongoing development of responsible AI guidance, templates and assurance practices.

What we're looking for

Must have commercial AI experience ideally across assurance, risk, cybersecurity, data governance, compliance or a related area within a large and complex organisation.

An understanding of AI beyond the use of generative AI tools, including how AI systems operate and the risks, controls and ethical considerations associated with their use.

Solid analytical capability, with the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar technologies, business processes and complex risk scenarios.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex risks clearly and guide teams toward practical solutions.

A consultative and enabling approach, with the judgement to balance innovation, risk and organisational obligations.

The ability to work with ambiguity, manage competing priorities and adapt as AI technologies and the University's assurance program continue to evolve.

A genuine interest in AI and the responsible application of emerging technologies.
