The Department of Education is seeking skilled and dedicated Teacher Aide (Braille) professionals to provide highly specialised support to students who are blind or vision impaired. These roles play a critical part in ensuring students can fully access the curriculum, participate in school life, and achieve their learning potential. This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.79FTE), 60 hours per fortnight.

Positions are available at mulitple locations across the state in Primary and Secondary settings.

Your Role

n

In This Role You Will

n

n
- Model reading and writing through Braille for students where Braille has been identified as a reasonable adjustment
n
- Transcribe printed text, graphics and student work between print and Braille
n
- Support students to engage in whole-class, group and individual learning activities using Braille materials
n
- Assist with Orientation and Mobility strategies under the guidance of specialist staff
n
- Produce and adapt learning materials in accessible formats
n




- Provide intervention and instruction under the direction of specialist teachers - Blindness and Vision Impairment (BVI)
n
- Support students' independence, wellbeing, confidence and social participation within the school workplace
n

A Mandatory Requirement Of This Role Is

n

n
- A recognised accreditation/qualification in contracted Braille, or be assessed as proficient in the reading and writing of Unified English Braille (contracted and basic maths) as determined and organised by the department.
