McArthur is seeking an experienced Client Service and Administration Officer to support a Commonwealth Government department based in Barton.
n
This is a full-time contract opportunities suited to candidates with strong government administration, application-processing and client-service experience. Successful candidates will work in a busy operational environment, managing sensitive enquiries and administrative processes in accordance with established policies and procedures.
n
Applicants must be Australian citizens and already hold a current Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance or higher.

The opportunity

- Full-time contract positions

- Potential extension of up to 12 months
n
- Expected commencement in October 2026
n
- 37.5 hours per week
n
- Barton, ACT location

- APS4 and APS5 equivalent opportunities

Key responsibilities
n
n
- Act as a primary contact for clients through telephone, email and face-to-face channels
n
- Respond to enquiries and provide accurate advice in line with policies, procedures and service standards
n
- Receive, review and process applications, ensuring information is complete and accurate
n
- Maintain accurate client records and update internal systems
n
- Liaise with internal teams, external service providers and government agencies
n
- Coordinate and process sensitive external checks
n
- Monitor administrative matters from commencement through to completion
n
- Prepare clear written documentation and recommendations for delegate consideration
n
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures
n
- Support Team Leaders with policy, service-delivery and operational projects
n
- Assist with broader administrative and client-service activities across the section
n
n
About you
n
To be successful, you will demonstrate:

- Experience processing applications, cases, requests or other high-volume administrative matters
n
- Strong client-service skills across phone and email channels
n
- The ability to manage sensitive or challenging enquiries professionally
n
- Excellent attention to detail and recordkeeping skills
n
- Experience interpreting and applying government policies and procedures
n
- Sound judgement and the ability to identify when matters require escalation
n
- Solid organisation and time-management skills
n
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
n
- Confidence working independently and collaboratively in a team setting
n
- A proactive approach to process improvement and operational support
n
n
Mandatory requirements
n
Applicants must:
n
n
- Be an Australian citizen
n
- Hold a current Australian Government NV1 security clearance or higher
n
- Be available to work from Barton, ACT
n
- Be able to commence in October 2026
n
n
Applicants who only hold a Baseline clearance cannot be considered for these positions.
n
The following will be highly regarded:
n
n
- Experience in security clearance or personnel-vetting processes
n
- Knowledge of the Protective Security Policy Framework
n
- Previous experience within DFAT, Defence or another Commonwealth security environment
n
- Experience undertaking sensitive external checks
n
- Experience preparing documentation or recommendations for delegate approval
n
- Experience drafting or maintaining SOPs
n
- Certificate III or IV in Government
n
n
APS4 and APS5 consideration
n
Candidates may be considered at the APS4 level, APS5 level or both.
