Specialist in Psychiatry required in Northern Queensland from 29/06/2026 to 18/12/2026.

Work Settings

n

There are four distinct Staff Specialist roles, all within a community‐based adult Mental Health Service providing continuing care to consumers in the South area of Cairns.

n

- Community‐Based Adult Mental Health Service – 210‐250 patients (including Yarrabah and Cloz shared care). Monday‐Friday 0800‐1630, no nights, weekends, or on‐call.
n
- Fly‐in/Fly‐out (West Cape) – 1 week on outreach and 1 week in Cairns each fortnight. Hours Monday‐Friday 0800‐1630 with occasional travel outside hours. Accredited travelling accommodation is provided. No nights, weekends, or on‐call.

- Fly‐in/Fly‐out (Torres and Cape) – 1 week on outreach and 1 week in Cairns each fortnight. Hours Monday‐Friday 0800‐1630. Travel outside hours arranged by the service.

- Rural (Tablelands) – 2 days per week based in Cairns; remaining 3 days to Atherton/Mareeba, subject to modification. Clinic times 0900‐1530 to allow travel. Monday‐Friday 0800‐1630. No nights, weekends, or on‐call.

Key Responsibilities

n

Provide care to patients with psychotic illness or severe mood disorder, including a high representation of First Nations communities. Attend multidisciplinary team meetings, Video‐Consult clinics, and manage a patient load consistent with a 0.6FTE consultant role. Coordinate with a registrar and GP with advanced skills.

Compensation

n

Rate of $2300.00 per day.
