The Role
n
We are seeking an experienced Journalist to cover and report on breaking news about crime, law enforcement, and justice. Joining our very busy Victorian news team, you will draw on a range of sources within police departments, emergency services and the court system to break stories and deliver accurate, high quality and engaging content across all ABC News platforms.

The Job
n
n
- Generate exclusive Victorian stories utilising a wide network of contacts, trusted sources and research.
n
- Rapidly report on crime scenes, accidents, and unfolding emergencies.
n
- Maintain a network of contacts within police departments, emergency services, and the court system.
n
- Write concise and accurate copy, using creative storytelling techniques with advanced production skills.
n
- Work collaboratively with newsroom leaders and staff, sharing experience and knowledge across the wider Victorian News team.
n
- Take direction and offer guidance and leadership; exhibit high-level communication skills.
n
- Good time management and coordination of colleagues in production situations when required.
n

About You
n
n
- You have experience in racing to the scene of a crime to cover breaking news, as well as using your strong network of contacts to confirm tip offs, follow leads and deliver exclusive stories.
n
- Demonstrated ability to break exclusive stories that have state‐wide impact and hold all levels of government to account.
n
- Excellent time management and writing skills with the ability to deliver explicit, concise copy.
n
