Are you an experienced nursing leader passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred dementia care? Join Western District Health Service as the Nurse Unit Manager – The Birches, where you'll lead a dedicated team supporting residents in a dementia-friendly environment and drive excellence in aged care service delivery.

This is a role for someone who values leadership, collaboration, and innovation, and who is committed to fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement. You'll lead clinical practice, workforce development, and operational performance while ensuring residents receive compassionate, evidence-based care that promotes dignity, independence, and quality of life.

Working closely with residents, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams, you'll play a pivotal role in advancing dementia care, supporting staff development, and delivering meaningful outcomes for the people who call The Birches home.

What You'll Be Doing

As the Nurse Unit Manager – The Birches, you'll lead the delivery of high-quality, person-centred dementia care while driving clinical excellence, workforce performance, and continuous improvement across the service.

Strategic Leadership —

Contribute to the strategic development of Nursing Services by supporting the implementation of organisational goals, best-practice models of care, and service improvement initiatives.

Clinical Governance & Care Standards —

Provide leadership in establishing, implementing, and monitoring clinical standards to ensure compliance with legislation, accreditation requirements, safety standards, and infection prevention and control practices.

Dementia Care Excellence —

Lead evidence-based, person-centred dementia care that supports residents' cognitive, behavioural, psychological, and physical wellbeing while promoting dignity, choice, and quality of life.

Quality Improvement & Risk Management —

Drive continuous quality improvement through audits, incident reviews, performance monitoring, and the implementation of corrective actions to enhance resident outcomes and service quality.

Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and professional development activities to build and maintain a skilled, engaged, and dementia-capable workforce.

Workforce Planning & Resource Management —

Oversee rostering, workload allocation, and staffing requirements to ensure workforce resources align with resident needs and service demand.

Support the effective management of budgets, labour costs,



and resources to ensure efficient and sustainable service delivery.

Consumer, Family & Community Engagement —

Work collaboratively with residents, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to support engagement, shared decision-making, and positive care experiences.

Teamwork & Workplace Culture —

Foster a positive, safe, and collaborative working environment through effective communication, teamwork, and a commitment to WDHS values.

Professional Leadership —

Act as a role model for clinical excellence, professionalism, and organisational values, supporting staff development and promoting high-quality care across The Birches.

What You Bring

- Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to guide and support multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality care and positive resident outcomes.
- Ability to contribute to the strategic direction of Nursing Services, including service planning, objectives, and best-practice frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance, accreditation standards, legislation, safety, and infection prevention and control requirements.
- Experience leading quality improvement activities, including audits, incident management, risk review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven workforce management skills, including rostering, workload allocation, and aligning staffing resources with resident needs and service demands.
- Ability to manage staff performance through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and performance review processes.
- Sound financial management skills, including budget monitoring, labour cost management, and resource allocation.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and a positive team culture.
- Commitment to staff education, professional development, and building workforce capability.
- Ability to act as a professional role model, promote organisational values, and positively represent WDHS within the community.
- Commitment to person-centred care, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement in aged care and dementia services
