About the Role
n
As Commissioning Manager, you will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities across multiple projects nationwide. This includes grid connection infrastructure, substations, and balance-of-plant (BoP) systems, ensuring secure, compliant and timely energisation of the facility.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
1. Commissioning Planning and Strategy
n
n
- Develop and manage the overall HV commissioning strategy and execution plan
n
- Define commissioning scope for substations, Transformers, switchgears and cables
n
- Coordinate with OEMs, EPC contractors,
and grid operators on commissioning requirements
n
- Establish detailed procedures, ITPs, ITCs and commissioning schedules
n
n
2. Technical Oversight
n
n
- Lead HV Testing and Commissioning activities including primary injection testing
n
- Secondary injection and protection relay testing (including IEC 61850)
n
- Cable testing (VLF, IR, Sheath)
n
- Ensure compliance with grid codes and utility standards (AEMO, DNSP/TNSP_)
n
- Review and approve test results, commissioning reports and redline drawings
n
- Aid troubleshooting of all plant equipment
n
n
3. Safety Management
n
n
- Enforce strict adherence to HV safety procedures and permit systems
n
- Lead energisation risk assessments, and isolation plans
n
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as AS3000, 2067
n
n
4. Stakeholder Coordination
n
n
- Interface with OEMs (Battery, PCS, Transformers, switchgear)
n
- Network Service Providers (TNSP, DNSP)
n
- AEMO (for grid compliance and registration)
n
- Lead commissioning meetings, progress reporting, and issue resolution
n
n
5. Grid compliance and Testing
n
n
- Manage and support R2 testing and grid compliance activities
n
- Generator Performance Standards Validation
n
- Hold Point witness testing with NSP/AEMO
n
- Ensure all Commissioning documentation meets regulatory and grid connection requirements
n
n
6. Documentation and Handover
n
n
- Compile and review test certificates and reports
n
- Lead handover to O&M; including training and operational readiness
n
- Schedule and risk management
n
- Track commissioning progress against project schedule
n
- Identify risks, delays and technical issues; implement mitigation plans
n
- Support project milestones such as First Energisation, Backfeed, First charge/discharge of BESS, Practical Completion (PC)
n
n
About You
n
n
- 8–10+ years' experience in commissioning and testing of electrical systems
n
- An Australian recognised Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering or similar.
n
- Proficient in Protection & control systems
n
- Renewable energy projects (Solar and/or BESS highly regarded)
n
- Experience with HV, MV & LV systems
n
- Knowledge of Australian standards, regulatory requirements, and testing procedures
n
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and delivering to project budgets
n
- 3-5 years' experience with either an EPC Contractor, NER or NSPs.
n
- Proven leadership and presentation skill
n
- Work well under pressure
n
- Collaboration skill in multi-disciplinary organisation
n
- Ability to travel and work away from home as required
n
n
