VACCHO is committed to supporting our staff through a hybrid work model that balances flexibility with connection.

All new staff complete a three-month training and onboarding period in the office. This ensures they receive the right support, build relationships, and develop a strong understanding of VACCHO’s systems and ways of working.

Following this period, staff may request for working from home to be considered for up to two days per week for full-time staff.This hybrid model allows us to stay collaborative and connected while also supporting our team to enjoy the benefits of flexibility and work–life balance.

Job Title: Communications Officer

Location: Collingwood, VIC (Hybrid Work Model)

Salary: $80,000 to $100,000 (depending on experience) + super + NFP Salary Packaging

VACCHO is the peak representative for the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.

We have 35 member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations providing support to over 78,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the state. We lead and support Aboriginal Community Control and the broader health and social services sector to deliver transformative health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities in Victoria.We are a centre of expertise, policy advice, training, innovation and leadership in Aboriginal health and wellbeing. About the role

The Communications Officer will support the Executive Manager, Communications & Digital Services, and is primarily responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans and providing communications advice to internal and external stakeholders. More specifically they will lead the communications requirements of the cancer journey strategy including cancer screening and early detection content.





The role will also support the Communications and Digital Services team through other areas including internal communications, writing, social media, website and media when required.

Essential skills/experiences

- Demonstrated knowledge and working experience in communications and digital teams.
- Experience developing and implementing effective and integrated communications plans.
- Experience with internal and external communications plans and approaches.
- Demonstrated ability in analysing and understanding communications needs of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to identify and analyse emerging opportunities with respect to communications needs.
- Experience in maintaining social media, digital media or traditional media.
- Exceptional writing, editing and verbal skills and ability to translate complex information.
- Ability to identify and pitch opportunities and ideas for communications activities.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Microsoft applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management) and Adobe Creative Suite combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Tertiary education and/or equivalent skilled experience in communications.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work we do.

- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and commitment to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and health.




- Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal peoples, Communities, and organisations, in a culturally safe, and appropriate, manner.
- An understanding of LGBTQIASB+ issues and respect for diverse identities.
- Working for Community in a culturally safe Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.
