Full time Temporary with a Possibility of Permanency
Details: Health and Community Services Directorate (HCSD) are seeking a Tribunal Advocate to join our TribunalServices team and play a key role in representing the Commissioner for Social Housing before the ACT Civiland Administrative Tribunal (ACAT). Reporting to the Assistant Director, Tribunal Services, you will manage housing matters before ACAT and represent the Commissioner in tenancy-related proceedings under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997. This includes matters relating to tenancy breaches, rental debt, property access, antisocial behaviour and property condition issues. Working closely with Housing Managers, Team Leaders in Tenant Experience, and other areas across HousingACT, you will provide expert advice and collaborate on solutions for current and emerging tenancy matters. You will prepare and present applications, client histories, evidence and outcome reports for ACAT proceedings, ensuring matters are managed professionally and efficiently from commencement to resolution. The role requires strong stakeholder engagement, including liaison with the ACT Government Solicitor's Office, clients, legal representatives, community organisations, government agencies and members of the public. You will build and maintain productive working relationships while providing guidance and support to tenancy teams on Tribunal matters and legislative requirements. Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to -Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
- As this role is likely to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, the capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications Law/Legal Studies, Policy or a related field are desirable but not essential.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for up to 12 months with the possibility of permanency.
