The Production Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end production and delivery of print and retail marketing materials, ensuring the most appropriate production methods, suppliers and solutions are selected to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and within budget.
Print production is a key focus of the role, including management of point-of-sale collateral, packaging, signage and other printed materials from artwork and specification through to sampling, production, distribution and delivery.
The role will also support broader retail production requirements where required, including displays, fixtures, fabricated elements and other physical components associated with retail campaigns and store rollouts.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the sampling, ordering and production of all printed retail POS, signage, packaging and marketing collateral.
- Provide expert recommendations on paper stocks, substrates, print processes, finishes, colour management and production methods to achieve the required creative outcome within budget.
- Review artwork, specifications and production files to identify potential print or production issues prior to manufacture.
- Manage proofing, colour matching, press checks, samples and production approvals as required.
- Ensure printed collateral is produced to the correct artwork, dimensions, materials, finishes and quantities for each store or location.
- Manage the production and distribution of point-of-sale collateral to client stores, ensuring deliveries are complete, accurate and on time.
- Manage product packaging production, including sampling, material selection, print methods, finishes and timely approval of production samples.
- Source,
assess and recommend printers and specialist production suppliers based on capability, quality, cost and delivery requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, production schedules and commercial terms with print and production suppliers.
- Maintain strong relationships with printers, fabricators, installers and other external production partners.
- Prepare production briefs, specifications and requests for quotation and review supplier responses.
- Identify cost-effective production solutions without compromising quality, brand standards or project requirements.
- Support the production of broader physical retail elements where required, including displays, fixtures, signage structures and fabricated components.
- Coordinate sampling, prototyping and approvals for fabricated or physical retail elements.
- Assist in managing production requirements for new store openings, refurbishments, campaign rollouts and other retail initiatives.
- Coordinate multiple suppliers where projects incorporate a combination of print, fabrication and physical production elements.
Qualifications and Experience
- 4+ years' experience in print production, production management or a similar role.
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial print production, including stocks, substrates, printing processes,
finishing techniques, colour management and artwork requirements.
- Demonstrated experience managing printed POS, packaging, signage and retail marketing collateral.
- Experience working directly with printers and specialist production suppliers.
- Strong understanding of print estimating, quoting and supplier negotiation.
- Experience managing proofs, samples, press checks and production quality control.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications used in the production of print assets.
- Experience with broader retail production, fabrication, fixtures or physical display elements is advantageous.
- Experience coordinating multi-site retail campaigns or store rollouts is desirable.
- Strong experience in a similar position, preferably within an agency, retail or production environment.
- Project management system experience.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent production jobs, suppliers, deadlines and budgets.
- High attention to detail and strong commitment to production quality.
- Strong technical and practical approach to print and production.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
