Position Description — Architectural Draftsperson

n

Position Purpose

n

The Architectural Draftsperson supports the architectural team in the design and documentation of childcare, commercial and multi-residential projects.

n

Working collaboratively with architects, designers, consultants and clients, the Draftsperson produces accurate, coordinated and detailed architectural documentation. The role requires robust technical ability, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering functional, thoughtful designs that meet client expectations, regulatory requirements and Colab's quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Documentation

n

n
- Assist the architectural team with schematic design, design development and construction documentation.
n
- Prepare accurate architectural drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules and construction details.
n
- Produce and maintain project documentation using ArchiCAD and other relevant drafting tools.
n
- Incorporate design changes and consultant information into coordinated drawing packages.
n
- Review documentation for accuracy, consistency and compliance with project requirements.
n
- Assist in resolving technical, spatial and construction-related design issues.
n

Project Coordination

n

n
- Collaborate with architects, designers and consultants to coordinate project information.
n
- Attend site visits and undertake surveys as required to obtain information for design and documentation.
n
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, client presentations and internal quality reviews.
n
- Maintain organised project files, drawing registers and documentation, including appropriate version control.
n
- Follow Colab's project delivery processes, phase maps, task lists, templates and quality assurance checklists.
n

Client and Consultant Communication

n

n




- Communicate with clients, consultants, suppliers and other project stakeholders in a professional and positive manner.
n
- Prepare clear and accurate written correspondence in accordance with Colab's communication standards.
n
- Build and maintain positive working relationships while representing Colab through professional conduct and presentation.
n

Studio Contribution

n

n
- Contribute to general studio management tasks and the efficient operation of the practice.
n
- Liaise with suppliers to maintain current knowledge of products, materials and construction systems.
n
- Participate positively in Colab's collaborative studio culture.
n
- Continually develop drafting skills, software proficiency, technical knowledge and awareness of industry best practice.
n

Skills and Experience

n

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:

n

- Relevant qualifications in architectural drafting, building design or a related discipline.
n
- Experience preparing architectural design and construction documentation.
n
- Proficiency in ArchiCAD.
n
- Strong technical drafting skills and attention to detail.
n
- An understanding of Australian construction methods, building regulations and documentation standards.
n
- The ability to interpret consultant drawings and coordinate multidisciplinary information.
n
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
n
- Clear written and verbal communication.
n
- The ability to manage priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
n
- Experience in childcare, commercial or multi-residential projects will be highly regarded.
