The short version

We're looking for an accountant who is genuinely good with people and genuinely good with technology. You'll run your own portfolio of clients, you'll be the person they ring, and the person who prepares their work along with a team to assist you. If you're currently doing the compliance but never speaking to the client, this is the step up.

About us

Dolman Bateman is a chartered accounting firm in Roseville on Sydney's Upper North Shore. We look after thousands of small, medium and large business clients across construction, eCommerce, hospitality, finance, manufacturing and superannuation, plus their individuals, trusts and SMSFs.

We've recently taken on a significant intake of new businesses, and we need another accountant to look after them properly.

We're a small, stable team. All of our staff have been here for more than ten years, which tells you most of what you need to know about what it's like to work here.

What you'll do

- Own a portfolio of clients. You're their first point of contact, not just the name on the file. You'll build the relationship, answer the questions, and be the reason they stay.
- Prepare financial statements, tax returns and working papers for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and self-managed super funds.
- Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS , and manage the lodgement calendar for your clients.
- Prepare monthly management reporting and talk clients through what the numbers actually mean.
- Deal with the ATO on your clients' behalf — correspondence, queries, payment arrangements.
- Handle client queries by phone and email , explaining tax and accounting issues in plain English.
- Keep the practice database and client records accurate , and manage billing and job admin for your portfolio.
- Pitch in with whatever else the week throws at us.





What we're looking for
- 2–3+ years' experience in an Australian public practice , or robust working knowledge of Australian tax law from an equivalent role.
- A degree in accounting, commerce or business. CA or CPA qualified, or working towards it, is a plus.
- Genuinely tech-savvy. Xero certified (or certified within your first month), confident in MYOB and QuickBooks, and strong in Excel. More importantly: if you're the sort of person who finds a better way to do something rather than repeating it manually forty times, you'll do well here.
- Excellent written and spoken English. You'll be writing directly to clients and to the ATO in your own words.
- Organised. You manage your own deadlines without being chased.
- Someone who wants to stay. We invest properly in our people, and we're looking for someone who's building a career, not passing through.
- Happy to be in the office in Roseville , five days a week ( we offer WFM options later down the track)

Nice to have: SMSF experience (Class or BGL), exposure to an automated or paperless workflow, and any experience with content creator or eCommerce clients. What's in it for you
