Cyber Threat Analyst - Federal Government | Canberra Based

12-Month Contract + 2 x 12-Month Extension Options
n Start Date: November 2025

Are you a skilled Cyber Threat Analyst with a passion for proactive threat hunting and protecting critical infrastructure? Experis Australia is partnering with a Federal Government agency in Canberra to source a talented professional for a long-term engagement.
n
About the Role
n
As a Cyber Threat Analyst, you will play a key role in identifying and mitigating cyber threats across the agency's network. You'll work with cutting-edge tools like Splunk or Sentinel, leveraging threat intelligence and attack frameworks to stay ahead of adversaries.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Proactively hunt for threats across the client's network.
n
- Utilise Cyber Threat Intelligence to support threat hunting activities.
n
- Create and maintain threat detection tools, including custom use cases and dashboards.
n
- Develop and refine hypotheses based on emerging threats and adversary behaviours.
n
- Analyse security events and logs to identify anomalous activity.
n
- Recommend security enhancements and assist in developing countermeasures.
n
n
Skills & Experience Required
n
n
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Cyber Security Incident Responder or Threat Hunter.
n
- Strong proficiency in log analysis and threat detection using SIEM platforms (Splunk, Sentinel, etc.).
n
- Experience using attack frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK; in incident response or threat hunting.
n
- Proven ability to design, implement, and test use cases to detect malicious activity.
n
- Collaborative team player with strong knowledge-sharing skills.
n
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
n
n
Highly Desirable
n
n
- Technical tertiary qualifications.
n
- Certifications such as Microsoft, Splunk, CISSP, GCIH, GCIA.
n
- NV2 Security Clearance or ability to obtain.
n

Desired Skills and Experience
n

- 3+ years in cyber security incident response or threat hunting
n
- Proactive threat identification across enterprise networks
n
- Experience developing and refining threat hypotheses based on adversary behaviours
n
- SIEM Platforms & Log Analysis – Strong proficiency in Splunk or Microsoft Sentinel
n
- Skilled in log analysis and threat detection; experience designing, implementing, and testing custom use cases and dashboards
n
- Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) and MITRE ATT&CK; familiarity
n
- Security Event Analysis & Countermeasures – ability to analyse events and logs and recommend enhancements
n
- Collaboration & Communication – strong team player with transparent documentation
n
- Certifications & Qualifications – technical qualifications; CISSP, GCIH, GCIA; Microsoft or Splunk certifications preferred
n
- NV2 Security Clearance or ability to obtain
