Disability Support Worker positions are available across Buttaba, Lake Macquarie through to Jilliby, Central Coast. You will be supporting males who have sustained a spinal cord injury, delivering person-centred care in accordance with their individual support plans.

This is a role where your work is fundamental to a participant's ability to get out of bed, maintain their health and wellbeing, participate in their community, pursue personal goals, and live life on their own terms. Through the delivery of essential daily supports, you will help promote independence, dignity, choice and inclusion.

Shift times range from mornings: 7:30am – 10:30 am, 7:00am – 11:30 am, 7:00am – 12:00pm, and evenings: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm, and 8:30 pm – 10:30 pm. Additional shift hours for days participant's require increased support.

Key responsibilities

Working collaboratively with colleagues, including the Registered Nurse, to deliver high-quality supports that promote independence, health, wellbeing, and community participation for people living with spinal cord injuries

Supporting participants in accordance with their individual care plan to complete essential morning and evening routines that underpin their health, dignity, independence, and ability to participate in daily life





Supporting morning routines including bowel care, catheter management, personal care, showering, skin care, manual handling and the safe transfer of participants

Supporting evening routines including meal preparation, assistance with eating where required, personal care, manual handling, and safe transfers

Meal preparation and medication administration in accordance with the participant's care plan

Assisting people in performing important daily activities and facilitating daily tasks like personal hygiene and dressing, with the inclusion of catheter care and bowel management

Manual Handling, including the safe and competent use of Assistive Technology Aids and Equipment e.g. ceiling hoist, floor hoist, sling, shower commode, electric powered and/or manual wheelchairs

Performing home-based tasks such as food preparation and housework, and undertaking tasks outside the home, such as shopping

Report any real or potential risks of harm to a participant, including children and young people, and identify and report any work health and safety issues

Record all work as per the organisation's requirements

About you

NDIS Worker Screening Check, Senior First Aid Certificate with a Valid CPR Certificate, Police Check, Working With Children Check - Paid, Driver's License, Smartphone, and a Reliable, Fully Registered & Comprehensively Insured Vehicle are required

Preferred minimum of six months' experience in disability support, aged care, healthcare, or a related field

Experience in bowel care, catheter care, manual handling, and safe transfers is desirable
