Internal Expression of Interest: Counsellor - Accessible Psychological Interventions (API) team

- Based at 22–28 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda, with work at additional sites as required
- SACS Level 5 or Psychologist Grade 2, with pay point dependent on experience
- Part-time, permanent position

Make a meaningful difference We are seeking an experienced API Counsellor to deliver timely, accessible and high-quality psychological assessment, therapeutic counselling and follow-up support to adults, children, young people and families. This is a valuable opportunity for a current BHN employee with strong counselling and risk assessment skills to work with people experiencing mild to moderate psychological challenges, including people who may face barriers to accessing support.

In This Role You Will

- Screen and assess individuals and families seeking psychological support
- Deliver evidence-based mental health assessment, treatment and therapeutic counselling
- Complete comprehensive risk assessments and safety plans
- Plan appropriate follow-up, including transferring care or referring clients to other BHN team members and external services
- Take a holistic approach to supporting clients' health and wellbeing needs
- Build strong connections with local health and community services to support coordinated care and provide secondary consultation to internal and external health professionals
- Maintain accurate and timely assessments, case notes, client data and risk documentation
- Contribute to the development and delivery of therapeutic group programs
- Work in accordance with the Accessible Psychological Interventions program guidelines
- Collaborate with the Counselling team and other Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs and Gambler’s Help teams
- Participate in team activities, training, meetings and program accountability requirements.

About You You will bring:





- Registered psychologist with AHPRA or mental health certified social worker, or mental health credentialed nurse
- Current, unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, or membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers and relevant mental health credentials
- Experience assessing and treating adults, children and young people in a health or community setting, including people experiencing complex health concerns, mental health challenges or trauma
- Experience completing comprehensive assessments, including family violence risk assessment and management
- Strong capability in risk assessment and safety planning
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary workplace
- Knowledge of client privacy, confidentiality and client rights
- Demonstrated practice of current evidence-based approaches to individual, family and group counselling
- Strong teamwork, written communication and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work within relevant professional, ethical and organisational guidelines
- A current full or probationary driver’s licence.
