Learn a trade building the gear that keeps aircraft moving
We're taking on an apprentice to train as a Welder and Fabricator with the team. You'll spend four years learning to cut, shape, weld and build. Working on steel, stainless and aluminium, learning everything from repairs and modifications to fabricating structures from scratch. It's real work on real equipment, in a workshop where what you make gets used the same week you finish it.
You don't need experience. You need to turn up, listen, and want to be good at something. We'll teach you the rest.
What you'll get out of it
· A nationally recognised Certificate III in Engineering in the Fabrication Trade · Paid work from day one, with paid time off to attend trade school
· A qualified tradesperson as your dedicated mentor, not just whoever's free
· Hands on training across MIG and TIG welding, reading engineering drawings, marking out, cutting and assembly
· A trade that travels as fabrication skills are in demand everywhere
What you'll be doing
Starting out you'll work closely alongside qualified tradespeople, taking on more as you learn. Over the four years you'll be: · Reading and working from engineering drawings and job specifications
· Measuring, marking out, cutting and shaping material
· Welding with MIG and TIG across a range of materials
· Fabricating, repairing, rebuilding and modifying equipment and structures
· Operating workshop plant and tools once you're trained and signed off
· Checking your own work for quality before it goes out the door
· Heading out to site occasionally for repairs and maintenance
· Keeping the workshop clean and safe
What we're looking for
Essential · Enrolled in, or willing to enrol in, the Certificate III in Engineering, Fabrication Trade
· Completion of Year 10 or equivalent
· Solid basic maths skills in measurement, fractions, reading a tape measure
· Genuine interest in metalwork and making things
· Attention to detail, and the patience to get something right rather than fast
· Reliability, you show up, on time, ready to go
· Willingness to have a go, ask questions and take feedback from your mentors
· A commitment to seeing out a four-year apprenticeship
Nice to have, but not required
· Any metalwork experience from school, VET in Schools, a pre apprenticeship, farm or home workshop
· A current driver's licence (or working toward one)
· Forklift licence (or a desire to obtain one)
· Basic hand and power tool experience
If you've never welded in your life but you're the person who pulls things apart to see how they work, and you have an interest in learning to weld apply anyway.
What we offer:
