About the Company
Established in 2011, UTM Global Pty Ltd (“UTM”) is a specialist professional services firm supporting mining and exploration companies with high‑quality environmental and tenement management expertise. When you join UTM, you step into a role where your skills directly support and influence real projects, real clients, and real outcomes across Australia.
Role Summary
As an Environmental Approvals Officer at UTM Global, you’ll support mining and exploration projects across Australia through desktop environmental assessments, approvals preparation, compliance reporting, and high‑quality technical documentation.
Who we're looking for:
This role is ideal for early career environmental or geology professionals who enjoy research, regulatory and compliance work, problem‑solving, and contributing to responsible project planning.
Alternatively, this role could suit an experienced exploration Geologist or Environmental Advisor keen for a change of pace (and no more field work!).
You’ll thrive in a detail‑driven, desktop‑focused role, enjoy working with data, and be motivated to learn the regulatory frameworks that support responsible exploration across Australia.
While exposure to the below is highly regarded, some training is available for candidates with transferrable skills. Candidates with direct experience in the following responsibilities are also highly encouraged to apply, as salary is negotiable depending on experience! The role can be full or part time by negotiation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare environmental approvals and documentation, including APOs, EA applications, amendments, and ERC submissions.
- Conduct desktop environmental assessments, constraints checks, and risk assessments to support environmentally compliant project planning.
- Compile Mining and Exploration Activity Reports using client‑supplied data and desktop research.
- Conduct basic GIS analysis and mapping according to project needs.
- Assist with drill hole data entry, reconciliation of geological logs with geophysical logs, and preparation of geological technical reports.
- Prepare clear, accurate environmental reports and compliance documentation.
- Provide responsive client support, including answering queries and updating clients on approval progress.
- Contribute to improving internal systems, templates, and reporting processes.
Ideally, you will bring:
- An understanding of the requirements for mining exploration applications, environmental approvals and reporting across one or more States, or the ability to quickly acquire this.
- 1–2+ years of experience in environmental reporting, approvals, compliance, assessments, or related, ideally within the mining and exploration industry.
More experienced candidates with direct experience in the key responsibilities listed above are encouraged to apply (salary is negotiable based on experience for the right candidate)!
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Earth Science, Geology, or a related field (Bachelor preferred).
- Interest in mining, exploration, and how environmental approvals support project development.
- Solid attention to detail and confidence working with data, documentation, GIS, and structured processes.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues to produce high quality and accurate reports.
- A proactive, organised approach to managing tasks, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- Exposure to or willingness to learn tenement‑related environmental requirements, geological data workflows, and regulatory processes.
