Role Description The Bush Crew Member role is an on-site position located in the Greater Melbourne Area.
The Bush Crew
Member will support weed control, revegetation, and native grassland restoration across a variety of field sites, including ecological restoration projects and civil landscape works. Typical day-to-day tasks include implementing weed management techniques, assisting with site preparation, sowing and planting native grasses and other indigenous species, and maintaining restored areas through monitoring and follow-up weed control. The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions, operating hand tools and light equipment, following safety procedures,
and collaborating with a small field team and supervisors to meet project timelines and quality standards. The position may also include basic record-keeping, reporting site observations, and liaising with project leads to ensure work aligns with ecological objectives.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform field-based work, including manual handling, outdoor labor, and working safely in varying weather and terrain conditions.
- Knowledge or strong interest in native vegetation, grassland ecology, weed identification, and basic ecological restoration principles.
- Experience or willingness to learn weed control techniques, including hand weeding, brush-cutting, and protected use of herbicides under supervision.
- Basic skills in using hand tools and small machinery relevant to land management and landscaping, with a safety-conscious approach.
- Reliable teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively, and report site issues clearly.
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and capacity to work independently when required, with attention to detail in field tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various sites in the Greater Melbourne Area.
- Relevant qualification or training in conservation and land management, horticulture, environmental science, or a related field is advantageous.
- Previous experience in bush crew, landscaping, ecological restoration, or similar outdoor roles is highly regarded but not mandatory.
