The Company
There are ASX 100 businesses that look impressive on paper and ones that have genuinely earned it. This one sits in the second category. With a national footprint spanning hundreds of locations, a significant international presence and a position at the centre of one of Australia's most active consumer sectors, it is one of the most commercially sophisticated businesses in its industry.
The Queensland operation is a large and strategically important part of the broader group, operating across 13 hub locations and spanning multiple brands and thousands of employees. The regional finance function sits at the centre of all of that commercial activity, led by one of the most experienced and commercially astute finance leaders in the business. For someone who wants the scale and resources of a major listed business without the noise and politics of a head office workplace, this is a genuinely unusual combination.
The Role
Reporting to the Regional General Manager Finance, the Business Analyst sits at the commercial centre of the Queensland region, working directly alongside a finance leader with close to 20 years inside this business and an exceptionally deep understanding of how it works.
This is not a report maintenance role. The questions you will be working on are real and consequential: right-sizing the workforce across departments and brands, evaluating brand performance and making franchise decisions, modelling capital replacement schedules, assessing gross profit and expense trends across a network of thousands of employees. You will pull data from the Azure data warehouse, build it into clean, meaningful Power BI outputs and get it in front of the people who need to act on it, before they have thought to ask.
The Regional GM Finance is clear about what she needs: someone who already thinks like a reader, not just a producer. When you hand over a piece of analysis, the questions the reader is going to ask next should already be answered inside it. If the data is telling a different story than expected, you should notice and say so. If you need to be told what to think about, this is not your role.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Building, maintaining and enhancing Power BI reports and dashboards for the Queensland regional finance team and internal stakeholders, drawing from the Azure data warehouse
- Analysing and presenting commercial and financial data across location performance, brand productivity, gross profit, expense trends and revenue mix
- Supporting workforce right-sizing and cost analysis projects including staffing efficiency modelling by department, brand and hub
- Conducting brand and franchise analysis to support strategic decisions around incoming brands, franchise performance and footprint optimisation
- Preparing asset register reviews and capital expenditure analysis including useful life assessments and replacement scheduling
- Providing ad hoc data analysis and graphical reporting to HR, Used Cars, Finance and Insurance and Aftermarket teams for presentations and operational decision-making
- Supporting data-led presentations to location principals and hub leadership on performance metrics, velocity models and benchmarking
- Reviewing and quality-checking submitted packs including FBT and half-year packs for completeness and accuracy across the network
- Onboarding new senior staff into the reporting environment and providing training on key Power BI reports and data structures
- Proactively identifying emerging trends and insights in the data and surfacing them to the Regional GM Finance before being asked
About You You have worked in a real commercial environment where something is made, sold or serviced at a margin, and that experience shows in how you approach analysis. You do not wait to be told what the data means. You build an opinion, pressure-test it and communicate it with clarity and confidence to people at every level of a large organisation, from finance leaders to operational managers who have never opened a spreadsheet in their lives.
You are a genuine Power BI practitioner, comfortable with Power Query and DAX, capable of going from a raw data pull to a clean, decision-ready output without a lot of hand-holding.
There is an important distinction here:
someone who has used Power BI to view dashboards built by someone else is not the same as someone who has built them. This role needs the latter. You manage your own work, check in at the right moments and deliver something usable. A first mover out of Big 4 or mid-tier corporate finance with genuine modelling and commercial analysis experience is one strong profile. A candidate already working in a commercial business environment is another.
Skills & Experience To be effective in this role, you will likely bring:
- Solid commercial experience in an environment where financial and operational data drives business decisions
- Proven Power BI capability as a report builder, including Power Query and DAX
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate data into insight stakeholders can act on
- Confidence presenting to senior leaders and diverse non-finance audiences across a large organisation
- A commerce, accounting, business or related degree, or equivalent qualification by experience
- Comfort with ambiguity, independent problem-solving and delivering work to a high standard without constant direction
Experience in a complex, multi-site or multi-brand operational environment will be well regarded, though candidates from other sectors with strong commercial analytical experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
What's On Offer
- Direct access to one of the most commercially astute regional finance leaders in the business, with close to 20 years in the group and a genuine investment in the people around her
- Commercially consequential work at genuine scale, including brand analysis, workforce modelling, capital planning and network performance across approximately 80 locations
- The resources and complexity of a major ASX 100 business inside a quiet, low-noise suburban office, without the bureaucracy of a CBD head office
- A role that will adapt to the right person, with scope shaped around what the right candidate brings to the seat
Apply Now If you are a commercially minded analyst with genuine Power BI capability and the instinct to go beyond what was asked, this is a role worth a conversation.
