A Manager role with a genuine path to partnership
Most Manager roles in public practice offer more work and a better title. Very few offer a stake. This one does.
A boutique chartered accounting and tax practice is appointing a Manager to its Business Services team. The partners aren't looking for someone to absorb overflow — they're looking for someone who can take a portfolio and run it properly, and who may want to buy into the firm in time. Succession is a live conversation internally, and this appointment is part of how they answer it.
The firm
Small, close-knit and genuinely valuable at what they do. The client base spans private business groups, high-net-worth individuals and families, and SMEs across a broad range of industries. Because it's boutique, there's no siloing — you'll see the full picture of a client's affairs and sit alongside the partners rather than three layers below them.
The role
Reporting directly to the partners, you'll manage your own portfolio and hold technical responsibility for the work leaving the practice. That means reviewing financial statements and income tax returns across companies, trusts, partnerships, SMSFs and individuals; acting as the primary contact for your clients; and advising them on tax planning, structuring, succession and business performance.
You'll also mentor and develop the intermediate and senior accountants, take an active role in their technical training, and manage workflow, WIP and billing across your portfolio.
What you'll bring
- CA or CPA qualified
- Substantial Australian public practice experience, including demonstrated review responsibility
- Confidence dealing directly with clients, including the difficult conversations
- Genuine interest in advisory work, not just compliance volume
- Experience mentoring junior staff
- Strong technology skills across Xero and the usual practice suite
What's on offer Salary up to $160,000 plus super, depending on experience. A genuine partnership pathway for those who want it. And flexibility that's actually flexible — up to four days a week from home once you're established, with a single day in the office.
If partnership isn't what you're after, this remains an excellent senior role with autonomy, quality work and rare flexibility. If it is, the door is open.
