Intermediate to Senior Accountant Insolvency, Restructuring & Turnaround
Rapsey Griffiths Insolvency & Advisory – Newcastle NSW
Insolvency, Restructuring & Turnaround | Newcastle
Build a career that goes beyond traditional accounting.
If you're an accountant who enjoys understanding how businesses work, solving complex problems and dealing with real-world commercial situations, a career in restructuring and insolvency offers something different.
This isn't a role where you'll do the same compliance work or produce the same accounts month after month. You'll work with businesses facing challenging and often fast-moving situations. You'll investigate what has happened, analyse financial and operational data, deal directly with business owners and professional advisers, and help work through practical solutions.
You'll also join a progressive firm that is actively exploring how AI, automation and data analytics can improve the way restructuring and insolvency work is performed.
Why join Rapsey Griffiths?
We want our people to develop into well-rounded commercial advisers, not simply process insolvency files.
You'll benefit from:
- Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
- Genuine flexibility with 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home
- 1pm finishes on Fridays
- Direct exposure to directors, business owners, creditors, accountants, lawyers and other stakeholders
- A diverse mix of restructuring, turnaround, corporate insolvency and personal insolvency engagements
- Opportunities to work on investigations, financial analysis and complex commercial matters
- Direct access to, and mentoring from, experienced senior practitioners
- Support for professional memberships (CAANZ, CPA, ARITA) and relevant studies
- Ongoing professional and technical development
- A modern Newcastle East office and a supportive team
- Exposure to new technology, AI, automation and data analytics
- The opportunity to contribute ideas about how we improve the way we work
The role
No two engagements are the same.
You may be analysing the financial performance of a distressed business one day, investigating transactions and tracing funds the next, then working with directors on a restructuring strategy or assisting with the trading and sale of a business.
Depending on your experience, you'll work across matters including:
- Corporate insolvency appointments, including liquidations and voluntary administrations
- Personal insolvency matters
- Small Business Restructuring
- Business turnaround and recovery assignments
- Investigations and financial analysis
- Asset realisations and business sales
- Creditor and stakeholder negotiations
- Statutory reporting and regulatory requirements
As you develop, you'll take greater responsibility for engagements and build your commercial, technical and stakeholder-management skills.
Technology, AI and data analytics
We're interested in people who are curious about how accounting and advisory work is changing.
If you have an interest or experience in AI, data analytics, automation, Power BI, advanced Excel or other emerging technologies, we'd particularly like to hear from you.
You don't need to be a technology specialist. We're looking for people who want to use technology to analyse information, identify trends, improve investigations, automate repetitive work and support better commercial decisions.
If that's an area you're passionate about, there will be opportunities to help shape how we use technology across the firm.
About you
We're looking for someone who is curious,
commercially minded and motivated to develop.
Ideally, you'll have:
- 2+ years' experience in insolvency, public practice accounting, audit, business advisory or a related field
- A degree in accounting, commerce, business or a related discipline
- Progress towards, or completion of, the CA or CPA program
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills
- An interest in understanding businesses and what drives financial performance
- Sound written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence dealing with clients and professional stakeholders
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- A proactive attitude and a willingness to take responsibility
- An interest in technology, innovation, AI or data analytics, which would be highly regarded
- Previous insolvency experience is preferred, but it isn't essential. If you're currently working in accounting, audit or business advisory and want a more varied and commercially challenging career, we'd encourage you to apply.
