Company Description ZIRCON FIREFLY is developing Firefly, an advanced VTOL wildfire suppression aircraft designed to transform how wildfires are managed. The team has completed the initial prototype flight phase and is advancing a patented thrust-based suppression method that uses powerful jet turbine technology to push fires back on themselves, eliminating the need for water or chemicals.

This approach enables rapid in-field refuelling with 5-minute turnaround times via fuel pod exchange, supporting approximately 2.5 hours of continuous firefighting. Firefly offers high agility, precision, and AI-driven adaptability, with options for autonomous or piloted operation to protect high-value assets and control wildfires more effectively. ZIRCON FIREFLY is now seeking to scale this technology through collaboration with industry leaders, government agencies, and firefighting organizations to better protect lives, property, and the environment.

Role Description The CEO Co-Founder will provide strategic leadership for ZIRCON FIREFLY, guiding the company’s vision, growth, and partnerships in the wildfire management and aerospace sectors. This part-time, hybrid role is based in Cairns, QLD, with opportunities for some work from home.

Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and executing business strategy, building relationships with government agencies, industry partners, and investors, and representing the company in meetings, presentations, and negotiations.



The CEO Co-Founder will oversee marketing and sales initiatives, support fundraising and grant applications, and coordinate research and development priorities with technical teams. The role also involves setting organizational goals, managing budgets at an early stage, and ensuring that the company’s operations align with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.

Qualifications

- Solid Analytical Skills and Research capabilities to evaluate market opportunities, partnerships, and technical and regulatory landscapes.
- Excellent Communication skills for stakeholder engagement, public speaking, investor relations, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proven Sales and Marketing experience, ideally in technology, aerospace, emergency services, or related sectors.
- Experience in leadership, strategy, and operations within a startup or innovation-driven environment.
- Background in aviation, aerospace, firefighting, emergency management, or deep interest in climate resilience and safety technologies is highly beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with government bodies, commercial organizations, and community stakeholders.
- Comfort working in a hybrid setting in Cairns, QLD, including occasional site visits, testing activities, and in-person meetings.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, engineering, aviation, or a related field are advantageous but not strictly required if supported by strong experience.
