About the role

We are seeking a talented Chef (Casual) to join our kitchen team at Botanic Gardens Cafe in Mount Coot-Tha, QLD 4066. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst allowing you to contribute meaningfully to our culinary operations. As a Chef, you will play a vital role in maintaining our high standards of food preparation, presentation and quality, whilst supporting our mission to deliver memorable dining experiences to our guests.

This role is perfect for experienced culinary professionals seeking casual work arrangements 7.15am to 2.45pm

Key responsibilities

- Prepare, cook and plate dishes according to established recipes, plating standards and quality specifications
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards in compliance with health and safety regulations
- Manage food preparation stations and ensure efficient workflow during service periods
- Contribute to menu planning and development, offering creative culinary ideas
- Stock and organise kitchen stations with necessary ingredients and equipment
- Monitor food quality and taste, making adjustments as required to meet our standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including proper storage and inventory management




- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service and timely food preparation
- Assist with training and supporting junior kitchen staff when required

What we're looking for

- Proven experience working as a Chef or Cook in a professional hospitality environment
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and culinary best practices
- Excellent understanding of food safety, hygiene standards and health regulations
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain quality under pressure during busy service periods
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- A passion for fresh ingredients and creative cookery
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities within a kitchen environment
- Flexibility and reliability for casual shift work
- Relevant qualifications such as a food handler's certificate or hospitality qualifications (preferred)
- Experience in café or restaurant settings with diverse menu requirements (advantageous)
