Volunteers and governance leaders play an essential role in ensuring the organization remains sustainable, responsive, and aligned with its mission to empower young people across Tasmania.
Role Description The Co-Opted Board Director is a volunteer role that contributes to the strategic direction, governance, and sustainability of Girl Guides Tasmania. This remote role involves attending board meetings, reviewing reports and policies, and providing informed input on organisational strategy, risk, and compliance.
The Board
Director collaborates with other board members to oversee financial health, governance frameworks, and program effectiveness, and may participate in subcommittees or working groups as needed. Day-to-day activities include preparing for meetings, engaging in constructive discussion, supporting decision-making, and acting as an ambassador for Girl Guides Tasmania within relevant networks.
Qualifications
- Experience in governance,
board leadership, or strategic oversight in not-for-profit or community organizations.
- Understanding of financial management, risk management, or compliance frameworks relevant to charities or associations.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work effectively in a remote setting.
- Capacity for critical thinking, sound judgment, and ethical decision-making aligned with youth-focused and values-based missions.
- Commitment to child safety, inclusion, and diversity, with an understanding of issues affecting girls and young people.
- Ability to commit time for regular board meetings, preparation, and occasional committee work; prior board or senior leadership experience is highly regarded.
- Residence in Tasmania or strong familiarity with the Tasmanian community context is beneficial.
GGT is a Child and Youth Safe Organisation and all Adults in Guiding (AiGs) including employees, volunteers and members, must maintain up to date compliance and conduct mandatory training. All AiGs must hold a current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) as well as undergo a National Police Check every three years (or willingness to obtain). Mandatory Child Safe Child Friendly Training must be undertaken.
