We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at View Hotel Melbourne. The Commis Chef will assist senior chefs with food preparation, cooking, plating, cleaning, and maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety. Key Responsibilities

- Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, cutting, and measuring.

- Assist senior chefs with food preparation and cooking.

- Follow recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.

- Help prepare and plate dishes during service.

- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations and kitchen equipment.

- Follow food safety, hygiene, and health regulations at all times.

- Store food correctly and follow FIFO stock rotation procedures.

- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients.

- Assist with stock control and report shortages or damaged items.





- Minimise food waste and use ingredients efficiently.

- Complete cleaning duties before, during, and after service.

- Follow instructions from the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and Head Chef.

- Work efficiently and professionally as part of the kitchen team.

- Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to learn current cooking techniques.

Skills and Requirements

- Previous kitchen experience is preferred but not always required.

- Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.

- Good understanding of food hygiene and safety.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

- Good teamwork and communication skills.

- Strong attention to detail.

- Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.

- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays where required.

- Relevant culinary qualifications are an advantage.
