Primary objective: Utilizing a social emotional wellbeing framework to provide holistic, trauma-informed, evidence based, clinical counselling and support in the areas of alcohol and other drugs (AOD), mental health (MH) and social emotional wellbeing (SEWB) to individuals, families and communities, in selected Central Australian Aboriginal communities, within a Primary Health.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide evidence based, culturally appropriate assessments and therapeutic interventions with individuals, groups and families, in

collaboration with local Aboriginal health centre staff where appropriate.
1. Engage with remote communities to respond to community needs and values, views and expectations,



identify and address the AOD,

MH and SEWB issues of concern to the community.
- Encourage and facilitate community involvement/participation towards developing sustainable solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of the community and its members, with cultural awareness and sensitivity.

1. Manage a complex caseload and undertake effective case management within a multi-disciplinary team for clients with complex

needs.
- Support, mentor, guide and educate the practice of Remote AOD Workforce team members and encourage the facilitation of professional development both at an individual level and within the team.

1. Utilise professional communication and conflict resolution skills to build and maintain effective and trusted relationships and

collaborative partnerships within a Primary Health Care (PHC) setting and in the community.
1. Provide in-service education, training and support to PHC staff and other service providers where appropriate.
2. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. An accredited Social Worker with recognised qualifications in Social Work which provides for the eligibility of membership of the

Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW),



or recognised qualifications in Psychology with eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or Counsellor with recognised qualifications at a post graduate level, being eligible for membership with peak counselling bodies.
1. Minimum 2 years working experience post qualifying social work / psychology / counselling with experience in a MH setting.
2. Demonstrated recent experience in AOD and/or MH and social emotional cultural wellbeing assessment, treatment, case

management and therapeutic support appropriate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) people.
- Ability to work with individuals, families and communities in remote settings with ATSI people.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the neurobiology and impact of trauma, including intergenerational trauma; and experience in the implementation of trauma informed practice and care.
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement and capacity building.
- Capacity to provide qualified and culturally sensitive support to Remote AOD workforce within a PHC team.
- Proficiency in and commitment in the use of electronic information systems for the maintenance of clinical and service delivery records.
- Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) manual driver’s licence or ability to obtain with ability and willingness to undertake travel by

4WD or light aircraft to remote communities with a capacity to travel on a weekly basis and to reside in remote communities.
