About us

Next Step Health is a home visiting physiotherapy practice with a small group of dedicated clinicians in Greater Brisbane. We challenge ageism, we build communities and we champion the social model of disability.

We would like to welcome to our team a physiotherapist with experience and enthusiasm for neurological and geriatric rehabilitation and prehabilitation.

We work largely in rehabilitation of people with disabilities and older adults, however we seek out opportunities to deliver upstream interventions where we can better shape any individual’s course of ageing.

We welcome applications from experienced physios, but Recent Graduates are also welcome to apply.

We believe we can support new grads to become confident clinicians. We have upskilled wonderful new grads in the past (who are still with us 3 and 8 years later!).

About the role

We want physiotherapists who bring their A-game to work each day and spark joy in the lives of the clients they work with. After your initial training and shadowing, you'll work relatively independently in a home visiting role treating clients who are mostly funded by NDIS, Home Care Packages and the Commonwealth Home Support Program.

Although you're on the road, you will have support and regular mentoring from senior physiotherapists.

In addition to building a therapeutic alliance with your clients, your role will also involve liaising with carers, case managers and GPs and writing progress reports for case managers.

You will be required to train in the delivery of group classes and (possibly) 1:1 hydrotherapy.

There is no obligation for weekend work. This may be optional if you desire it.

You may be required to work one evening per week, finishing by 6:30pm.

We may be able to accommodate family friendly hours e.g commencing work after school drop off; don't hesitate to ask.

We love innovation projects!

We developed the Balance Yourself Book and the Clock Yourself app (which has been downloaded over 130,000 times worldwide!)

and both of those innovations are now the intervention tools in an NHMRC funded RCT.

We have another exciting innovation project in the works right now, and our whole team is involved in developing it.

If you have ideas for improved service delivery or recent program offerings, we want to hear about it!

The Pay

We pay our staff very well, according to their skillset and experience. We don't have a commission structure, and we aim to keep our wages competitive with the Queensland Health.

We offer 4 weeks annual leave.

Additionally, for staff who have been employed with us for over 12 months, we have an “end of year contribution bonus” structure that can attract up to 5 additional paid days of leave for use over our Christmas closure period.

This role involves a lot of driving and will require your own vehicle (and the tax deductions are awesome).

At your interview we'll discuss your annual salary and a fuel allowance individualised to your circumstances.

Career Progression For a new graduate your first year will involve a structured and individualised in-house professional development program with opportunities for you to shadow senior physiotherapists on the road for several days, and individualised inservices to develop your skills for your specific caseload.

The time investment allocated to this new graduate training program well exceeds $3000 in value.

In future years your professional development allowance will be $1500 (pro rata) and additional PD is often an option with co-payment.

A career pathway to HP4 equivalent wages will be created for any physiotherapists who express interest and show commitment to becoming the best physiotherapist they can be, through informal and formal professional development.

For example, as a mid career clinician you may pursue neurological titling, at which point our practice would aim to create a role for you equivalent to a HP4 at Queensland Health.

You're a good fit for our little team if you

- are motivated to build a rewarding career in neurological and gerontological physiotherapy.
- are cheerful, enthusiastic and have good communication skills face to face, on the phone and when writing professional reports.
- are keen to avoid the burdens of bureaucracy associated with large organisations, and just focus on helping your clients get well and stay well.
- want to work diligently but relatively independently, and have physio colleagues you can count on when you need them.
- value the opportunity to truly forge a therapeutic alliance with your clients and have a meaningful impact on their lives in the medium and long term.
- are creative and innovative, and want to work in a small progressive practice where your contributions are recognised and appreciated.
- are willing to remain up to date with Covid-19 and influenza vaccinations.
- have an Australian drivers license Contact Meg Lowry at [email protected] if you have any questions, or tee up a time to chat on the phone about this exciting opportunity.

- This ad will be live for 30 days however we will commence interviewing candidates as the applications are received and may appoint someone to the role before the job ad expires. We encourage you to make contact early.

If you'd like to work with us but don't think you're the right fit for this exact position, or you'd prefer casual or part time hours, we're open to chatting about what might work well for all parties.
