About the Role
We are seeking experienced Disability Support Workers with an interest in Positive Behaviour Support and supporting participants with complex needs. The role involves implementing individual behaviour support plans and person-centred strategies, recognising and responding appropriately to behaviours of concern, maintaining accurate documentation, and working collaboratively with participants, families and the broader support team.
You will support individuals with complex behavioural, psychosocial, intellectual, neurological and physical support needs while maintaining a safe, respectful, and empowering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver person-centred support in accordance with individual support plans, care plans, and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs).
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies to improve participant outcomes and quality of life.
- Work safely and effectively within authorised restrictive practice frameworks, ensuring all interventions are implemented in accordance with legislation, organisational policies, and participant Behaviour Support Plans.
- Monitor, record, and report on the use of restrictive practices,
escalation triggers, behavioural observations, and participant progress.
- Support participants with complex behaviours, high-intensity support needs, and trauma-related presentations using a proactive and least restrictive approach.
- Respond appropriately to behavioural incidents and crisis situations while maintaining participant dignity, safety, and human rights.
- Assist participants with personal care, daily living activities, community access, and skill development.
- Collaborate with Behaviour Support Practitioners, families, guardians, allied health professionals and other stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate case notes, incident reports and shift documentation.
- Promote participant choice, independence, inclusion and decision-making opportunities
About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience supporting individuals with complex behaviours and high-intensity support needs.
- Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support, trauma-informed practice, and person-centred support principles.
- Highly developed de-escalation, communication, and observational skills, with the ability to proactively identify and respond to behavioural escalation.
- Knowledge of NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements relating to restrictive practices and behaviour support.
- Experience implementing Behaviour Support Plans and working within regulated restrictive practice environments.
- Exceptional communication, incident reporting, documentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage challenging situations professionally while maintaining a calm, supportive approach.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
- A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and complex needs and a calm, respectful and person-centred approach.

Must-Haves
- A relevant qualification (or currently studying) in Disability, Mental Health, Community Services, or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year experience supporting people living with a disability
- A clean, reliable vehicle and a current Australian driver’s license
- Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and maintain vaccination status as per Queensland Government Directions
- Verification of work rights in Australia
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
- National Police Check
- First Aid and CPR Certificates
- Working with Children Blue Card
- Queensland Driver’s Licence
