Job Description
About the Role
n
We are expanding our accounting division and looking for a senior or supervisor-level accountant who is ready to step into a high-ownership role. This is not just a compliance seat, it is a leadership position within the pod structure.
n
You will own a portfolio of SME clients, resolve complex tax issues, and play a genuine mentoring role for the junior and intermediate accountants you work alongside. You will come from a mid‐tier, top‐tier, or strong boutique public practice firm, and be comfortable operating in a rapid‐moving, tech‐enabled environment where you can help shape how things are done, not just follow established processes.

Key Responsibilities
n
While no two days will be the same, your core responsibilities will include:
n
Client Ownership
n
n
- Take full ownership of a portfolio of SME client relationships across a range of structures including companies, trusts, and individuals.
n
- Prepare and review complex income tax returns and financial accounts to a high standard.
n
- Manage tax compliance obligations and ensure all lodgements are completed on time.
n
n
Technical Tax Work
n
n
- Handle BAS, IAS, FBT returns, CGT calculations, and depreciation adjustments.
n
- Identify and resolve complex tax issues, including Div 7A, entity structuring, and other advisory matters.
n
- Serve as the team's go‐to technical resource for escalated issues.
n
- Review and provide structured feedback on work completed by junior and intermediate accountants, including offshore outsourced team members.
n
- Coach and develop team members to lift overall quality and consistency across the team.
n
- Help set standards, improve processes, and contribute to training initiatives across the accounting team.
n
n
About You
n
Experience & Background
n
n
- 5–7+ years of experience in public practice accounting, with a strong focus on business services and tax.
n
- Solid Australian direct tax experience across both compliance and advisory work.
n
- CA or CPA qualified, or very close to completion.
n
- Has previously managed their own client portfolio within a firm.
n
- Comfortable reviewing and signing off on work completed by juniors and intermediates.
n
- Coming from a mid‐tier, top‐tier, or strong boutique public practice firm.
n

Skills & Approach
n
n
- Strong communication skills and a genuine enjoyment of building long‐term client relationships.
n
- Technically sharp with effective problem‐solving ability across complex tax scenarios.
n
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero and MYOB is highly desirable.
n
- Proficiency in FYI Docs is preferred but not essential.
n
- Thrives in a collaborative, tech‐enabled, and fast‐growing environment.
n
- Enjoys mentoring and lifting the capability of those around them, not just delivering their own work.
n
