Senior Software Engineer - Data & API Platforms. Canberra or Sydney | Hybrid Working | NV1 Eligible.

We are partnering with a high-profile Federal Government organisation undergoing a major digital and regulatory transformation program. An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a cross-functional delivery team focused on modernising large-scale data and API capabilities.

n

This role is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys building high-performance distributed systems, working across modern cloud-native technologies, and contributing to mission-critical platforms with significant national impact.

What Youll Be Doing

n

n
- Develop and deliver high-quality API and data pipeline solutions aligned to approved architecture and engineering best practices
n
- Support technical release coordination for both internal and external delivery activities
n
- Monitor, manage, and proactively mitigate risks relating to system performance and API availability
n
- Collaborate closely with engineers, testers, analysts, and stakeholders within agile delivery teams
n
- Contribute to broader platform uplift initiatives and continuous improvement activities
n
- Build scalable, resilient applications leveraging both SQL and NoSQL data sources
n

Key Skills & Experience

n

Essential

n

n
- 5+ years' experience in Senior Software Engineering roles
n
- Robust Java development experience
n
- Commercial experience with:n n
- Apache Spark
n
- Kafka
n
- Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
n

n
- Experience designing efficient processing algorithms and optimising application performance
n




- Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools including Kubernetes and Rancher
n
- Experience with CI/CD and continuous delivery tools such as Jenkins
n
- Strong understanding of automated testing frameworks
n
- Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional agile teams
n

n

Nice to Have

n

n
- Experience working within large-scale government or enterprise transformation environments
n
- Exposure to highly available API ecosystems and large data processing environments
n

n

Security Requirements

n

Candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance. Applicants with an active Baseline clearance and ability to upgrade are encouraged to apply.

Working Arrangements

n

- Hybrid model
n
- Minimum 2 days onsite per week in Canberra or Sydney
n
- 12-month initial contract with potential extension options
n

Qualifications

n

n
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
n

n
