About the role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Counsellor to join our team in a permanent full-time position, working across our Cleveland and Eight Mile Plains sites. The role will be based 3 days per week at Cleveland and 2 days at Eight Mile Plains.
The overall purpose of the Counsellor is to provide professional counselling to couples, families, adults and children, supporting them to navigate relationship challenges arising from relationship changes, separation, divorce and other life transitions. You will work closely with families and children, particularly those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged, helping them develop the skills and confidence to manage life’s transitions and build stronger, more resilient relationships and communities.
The services provided include individual and family counselling, support, information and education, referrals, group work and community development. You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting clients to strengthen relationships, improve wellbeing and achieve positive outcomes.
This role requires the ability to work a Thursday evening shift from 12:30pm–8:30pm at Eight Mile Plains. All other working days are 9:00am–5:00pm.
The pay rate starts from $53.42 per hour, plus superannuation, with access to salary packaging benefits.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional counselling to couples, families, adults and children, with a focus on supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged clients.
- Manage an appropriate caseload in accordance with service policies, procedures and guidelines, while working independently and exercising sound qualified judgement.
- Conduct client risk and outcomes-based assessments, develop appropriate counselling goals and case plans, and maintain accurate and confidential client records.
- Provide relationship and family counselling, supporting individuals, couples and families to improve self-awareness, communication, parenting skills and relationship outcomes.
- Provide clients with current information, education, resources and supported referrals to relevant community and specialist services.
- Deliver services through outreach where required, including support in schools, clients’ homes and other appropriate community settings.
- Ensure all services are delivered in accordance with Anglicare Southern Queensland’s quality standards, policies, procedures and relevant legislation, including fee collection and fee waiver requirements.
- Contribute to team effectiveness and continuous quality improvement by participating in team meetings, case conferencing, service planning, action research and improvement projects.
- Participate actively in clinical and operational supervision, professional development, training and performance appraisal activities to maintain and enhance professional practice.
- Build and maintain effective professional networks and community partnerships, attend relevant network meetings, contribute to service reporting and provide timely updates to management while supporting service targets and outcomes.
Qualifications, Credentials and Requirements
- Current National Police Check
- Current Blue Card
- Current Queensland Driver Licence
- Degree in Psychology, Social Work or similar
- Postgraduate qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or similar (beneficial)
- Ability and willingness to travel within the service region
